Drabble List!
Defend: I’ll write a drabble of my character protecting yours.
“I-- I’m not sure who it was, I’m afraid,” Lori lied, her face wrinkling up as though she were trying to remember. “It all happened very quickly, and they were wearing masks,” she continued on, not an entire lie.
The three men had entered all wearing masks, and begun to attack. Lori had the advantage of hiding behind the bar to keep her more or less safe, save for the few cuts from glass she’d obtained, but would be easily healed once the questioning was over.
The whole thing had been very surreal. It’d been one thing to hear the reports, the gossip, reading the papers, and another to be very much in the middle of it. When the auror tried to press again, Lori shook her head, raising a hand to comb her messy hair, only to stop mid-way, wincing in pain.
By the time the pub had gone quiet, she’d tried to sneak away, wanting to floo or apparate home, but the crunching sound of her stepping onto glass had given her away.
She’d cursed herself when footsteps neared her, and one of the masked men hovered over her, wand raised. He was only stopped by what she could assume was a customer wanting to help her. After stunning the man, the mask flew off, and barely a second later, a killing curse sounded, ending a life that had helped Lori live.
She’d stared at the face of the stunned man for what felt like hours, but in reality could have only been moments. Usi Mulciber. She’d had assumptions before, but having it confirmed? It was enough to make her sick to her stomach. Though Lori assumed she’d never have the time to get sick, as whoever had killed the other walked towards her to see what had happened.
Indeed, another masked male stood before her, bringing Usi back to life before speaking to her.
“Hold your tongue. It’d be a shame for a mother to grow up parentless.” The sneering words sent a chill through Lori, but she’d nodded. Agreeing to keep her silence in exchange for her life.
So even as more aurors pressed for any details about identities, Lori gave them nothing. Stood there, knowing full well one of the people out there who was ending lives day after day, knowing she could save some of those lives, and instead holding her tongue.
