Lucius strode into the living room, a delicate tray of tea and after-party gifts floating behind him, a self-satisfied smirk on his lips.
The smirk widened when he saw Narcissa reclined lazily on the sofa, and it faded rather quickly when he noticed Regulus was still there, giving his cousin a foot message of all things. Lucius didnât know Narcissa liked foot massages.
He strode over and cleared his throat to announce his presence; the effect was rather ruined when he had to double step quickly to avoid stumbling over the pair of heels lying on the carpet. He sighed and hitched up an indulgent smile. It wouldnât do to cause displeasure on Narcissa birthday.
âEnjoying yourself, my dear?â He settled himself on the sofaâs other end, mindful of the ends of Narcissaâs curls, and peered at her upside down; the indulgent smile turned into a genuine one. There was something distinctly feline about her pleased expression.
âThatâs quite an inspired birthday gift, Regulus,â he added, looking up at the other wizard, âBut given a little late, donât you think? The party is over, after all,â Lucius raised his eyebrows pointedly.Â
If there is one thing that Regulus loves, other than plants and studying alone, it would be ruffling Luciusâ feathers. Of course he knew that he was overstaying his welcome a long time ago, and yet, he decided to stay, longer than what was needed all because he wanted to make snide remarks and have some tea and macarons. Which is exactly what he did, when he stopped his massage for a while to yonk a macaron from the plate, sending a smile as he bit the cookie to Lucius.Â
âWhy Lucius, I didnât know you knew my favorite type of macaron. Is this red velvet and cream cheese? Looks like it.â He ate the cookie before reaching for another one. Only instead, he held the one up to Narcissa, âwould you like one, dear cousin?â Sometimes, Regulus falls into these gamesâwhether to test his mental ability, or brush up on his âsocial skillsâ and right now, Regulus was in that exact mindset, âyou really should try it, theyâre delicious. I hope your husband pays the cook top galleon for these cookies.âÂ
A chuckle or a giggle, he turned back to Lucius, âYes, Iâm aware of the magnificent party being over. It really was extravagant. How will you ever top next years birthday party? In fact, I donât even know how my dear cousin could top a birthday party for you, my lovely brother-in-law? Nothing but the best for you.âÂ
All the while holding the cookie.Â

Narcissa's face lit up the moment she saw Lucius taking a seat next to her, then chuckled noticing the royal procession of gifts that followed him. "Yes, you made me feel like a princess" She said, eyes shining with happiness and love as she reached for his hand. Although she was self-conscious about showing her affections in public, she didn't mind taking his hand to her lips and placing a light kiss on its back in front of Regulus. It was a small but meaningful gesture for the young couple.Â
The witch laughed at her cousin's jest, sitting straight again. "Well, thank you, cousin." Narcissa accepted the macaron Regulus offered her.Â
She knew what Lucius meant with his not-so-subtle remark about the party being over and immediately turned her head in his direction to reprehend him with a cold glare. "Lucius."Â Regulus was family, he did not need an invitation.
When she looked at her cousin, there was again a sympathetic smile on her lips. "I will think of something as splendid until then."Â
