“yeah, i know that. i already told you, it’s not bad enough to go to the e.r.” alex snapped. “sorry, sorry. it’s not your fault. it’s just the last thing i need right now.” she looked over her shoulder at maria as she ran cold water over the burn on her arm, obtained whilst extinguishing a small kitchen fire. “i just don’t get how the fire even started. i coulda sworn i turned everything off after dinner.” the water against her injury stung. she winced before glancing back down at it.
maria flinched back at alex’s words as she was snapped at. after a beat, and with alex’s apology, she edged forward again until she was by her side at the sink. “it’s an easy enough mistake to make.” her hands reached out towards alex’s arm, not yet touching but showing her intention to. “can i?” she asked, looking up to meet the other woman’s eyes. “please?” her eyes were wide and worried as she waited for alex’s permission for her to help care for the injury.
