Born from a woman ahead of her time...I followed suit. Everybody said you gotta pick one. I claimed the title Actswrite. (People thought it was my last name)..But realized soon after I was a natural born producer too...produced a weekend theater festival in Brooklyn right after I put together all of the elements of my pioneering Mama's 70th surprise birthday party. 65 people - (she invited 30+, I made it a surprise party 7 months prior) The day of on 3 hours of sleep...I directed people to come out of certain doorways at certain times...people she never thought she'd see again...and the last person she'd expect... Her brother who had not been North of the Mason Dixon in over 35 years....I never saw her mouth open so wide in my life!! My teeth were chattering it was so beautifully emotional and exciting... Saying all this to say I never put myself in a Box....I had found my other calling during that time working with " at risk " youth in Bedstuy surprised to learn they could relate to #babygirlplay - my story - because of it's universal message and #comingofage themes...This was nearly 20 years ago. Babygirl was 6 years old. I still love working with youth. My calling came early. Now the rest of the world has caught up. #multihyphenate & PROUD! I had 2 readings last week (and a guest star audition). One I wrote the other I acted in. I was also hired to write an outline for a showrunner...I never can predict which part of my right brain will be called upon.
