It had been years since the Institute, and all its horrors were long in the past, but sometimes Martin still dreamed of the Lonely.

“It’s not a place,” he told Jon, when he was finally calm. (He had not woken up calm.) “If it was just the beach, it wouldn’t…”

Jon gently wiped the tear tracks from Martin’s face. “Wouldn’t hurt so much?” he suggested.

“Y-yeah…” Martin’s breath caught in his throat. “I could handle the beach. At least that’s be… I’d understand it. I’d recognize it. But that’s never what I dream of.

“It’s always just… normal life. I’m at work, or walking down a street, or out shopping with the kids. It’s so normal, and then it’s… not. It start to realize that everyone around me is faint and dim, and no one seems to hear me. No one notices me. I keep reaching out, keep trying to touch someone, to make them hear me, see me…

“But they never do. I’m in agony… and no one sees me.”

Martin dropped his gaze to the cat purring on his stomach, and stroked her fur softly. Not unlike the way Jon was stroking Martin’s hair.

“I see you, Martin,” he murmured, resting his forehead against his husband’s temple. “I always do. I always will.”

“Mm. That a threat or a promise?”

“Yes,” said Jon, ominously, to make Martin laugh.

To all the lovely anons who sent me these asks the night of the finale... One, thank you for giving me the time I needed before I addressed these. Two, I’m sorry that I’m lumping these all together & not treating each message separately, from an individual that deserves an individualized answer as I always try to treat them, even though they’re anonymous. But, given that they all contain rather the same idea & it makes me sad to think about at the moment, I thought I’d answer them all together. I hope that’s alright ❤️ That said - & given the news that came out the day after the finale, after I got these asks, about Megan’s new production company & JB leaving the show -  I think it’s a pretty safe bet that the above scenarios are unlikely & the writers just fucked us over big time. That doesn’t mean that I don’t desperately want all these anons to be correct, of course... I also wanted to note that I do agree with the first anon that Red’s actions in the finale were so OOC (separate rant to follow later on that) & I agree with the other 3 anons that I am hereafter living in the AU that Red helped Liz fake her death & flew her & Agnes away to live safely in hiding & wait for him 🥲😭 Well, thank you, anons, for these commiserating messages on the night of the Terrible Awful...
