Comparable to: From Now On, Showtime! (Kdrama); Sell Your Haunted House (kdrama)
A hilarious comedy thriller drama that unfortunately gets bogged down with unnecessary romance and bad editing. It definitely could have been a 10 episode series and it would’ve been a knock out series. Seo in Guk is phenomenal in this. He had just the right over the top humor and darkness to his character, while I absolutely love Oh Yeon Seo, the writing for her character was awful and didn’t fit right. For the romance I more so rooted for the secondary couple more. I guess I was hoping for more of a best buddy relationship for the main couple. Overall still would recommend to watch once if you love mystery comedies.
As a PONDPHUWIN FAN this one is the one I'm looking forward to the most.
But also truly looking forward to...
HIGH SCHOOL FRENEMY (a take off on SCHOOL 2013?)
MY GOLDEN BLOOD (I mean GAWIN & JOSS 🫠)
SUMMER NIGHT (DUNK w/o JOONG and PHUWIN w/o POND)
& most definitely
WANDEE GOODAY (I mean GREAT is in the HOUSE)
On The Fence...
MY LOVE MIX UP (LOVE GEMINI-FOURTH but AOKI & IDA it's just too soon) but definitely still watching. THIS SHIP IS FIRE ...My School President and Moonlight Chicken they've more than proven themselves so this is why they're out of 23.5???
I have to say that I don’t even mind watching WAR OF Y.
It’s very angst-ridden, very soap-opera-ish.
I’m only posting this because I’ve seen many people hating on it!
Is it the BEST series I’ve ever seen? No. But, neither is it the worst.
I have to give the makers credit—they put A LOT into this series. And it has more episodes in one season than any other BL series, as far as I’m aware!
(I have to admit, I started watching after I read someone’s criticism that it had too much soft-core porn in almost every episode. I guess we all have our different levels on what qualifies as “soft-core porn.”[KinnPorsche])
My interest was piqued when I read that, but it certainly is NOT porn-y! The show depicts bl actors filming shows, so the kissing & “soft-core porn” described, in one person’s, critical, opinion, is all part of the different shows the characters are filming. Other than that, there are not too many sexual situations between the actors, when they are, supposedly, NOT acting for the camera. (So, I got all excited for nothing much!) But I’m still watching “because it’s there.” And it’s not terrible. Oh, and the house they stay in to compete in the “War of Y,” a fake reality series to create the next pair of “shipped” idols, in the last story, is Kinn’s family compound—fun!
School, students, pining (how have i never put that as a trope before), female interference, multiple couples, public confession
Trigger warnings-
Blood, uhh sports injury? (to the knee), fainting, attempted drunken confession coercion (does that even make sense? I don’t think so)
Bloggers rating-
8.9/10
Summary-
Tine is being pursued by Green, who he’s really not very interested in. In order to let Green down softly, Tine comes up with a devious plan. Convince Green that Tine already has a boyfriend! And who better for the role than Sarawat, the cool and quiet lead guitarist of the most popular band at the university?
Bloggers opinion-
As you can probably tell by my rating, I enjoy this series quite a lot. It does have some flaws, but all in all, it’s pretty damn solid. The acting is good, the music is nice, and the main couple has a generally agreeable story, with the added bonus of having pretty solid chemistry. The parts of that I liked a little less were 1) that this series continues the trope of the feminine gay characters (ie Green) being used only for comedic relief/ as an obstacle, rather than as a real character. I will say that Green got more character development than I had expected, and was less 2D than some other characters I’ve seen, but he was still just treated as a nuisance for the first few episodes and I don’t appreciate that.
That leads me into 2) Pam. She was just thrown in the series to create issues and like, I get that you need a plot but goddamn can you come up with one that doesn’t villainize women? Thanks. Speaking of villains 3) Mil. That guy was a creep and didn’t deserve a happy ending, there I said it. Finally, and worst of all 4) Inconsistent character writing. Sarawat just straight up became a different person when Pam showed up, and suddenly became super dismissive (?) of Tine and like ???? Sarawat’s gay y’all. He likes men. I get that Pam was an old friend of his and yada yada yada but like come on dude Sarawat just became a different person and that’s super sucky. I can forgive changes in Tine’s personality because he’s been a bit more of an awkward, shy character from the get-go but like.. Sarawat dropped the ball in the last couple of episodes, damn.
Final thoughts-
Fun side characters/ couples, cool music and a decent script. Definitely worth a watch! This had so much potential to be one of my absolute favourites, but the inconsistent character writing really irked me. Idk, it’s really not that bad, and I won’t deny that I think this is a good series regardless but yeah. There’s always room for improvement, I suppose. But yeah no, definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it already (lets face it, everyone already has, haven’t they?)
Ending status below the cut-
Sarawat and Tine end up together, as do all the side couples, which would be a good thing but Mil exists and I don’t like him so I’m not happy about it.
Let's just say I got a few ideas after seeing this.
