how do you figure out the plot and how to write it so well?
Well, first and foremost thank you for thinking I write well, I feel like I barely know what I'm doing most days aha
The plot is ever-changing. Cantankerous is currently heading for a conflict and resolution that is similar but quite different from what it originally was. Chunks of it are pre-written, and some of it is still just in concept.
I try to figure out my main plot-points - Malthael meeting Rathma, getting taken to Heaven, going to the Moon for Character Developement - ahead of time, and then fill in the rest.
In terms of writing it well? I'm not sure. Most of my chapters are written kinda on the fly. I know ballpark what needs to happen, and try to make that happen. There are a lot of chapters that will never see the light of day. Several thousand words of scenes and such that I wrote, and simply didn't fit into the story. There's two whole ending chapters that you might not ever see, cuz I have to pick one.
(Yup, the very ending of Cantankerous is only kind of written.)
There's this one scene I've been chewing on for a while now, and I'm still not totally sure about it. Has about five different variations floating around. But is doesn't show up for a minute, so it's on the backburner.
I suppose the take-away here is to simply try everything. If you write something and it feels good? Great! Roll with that! If it's not feeling quite right? Shelve it for now, try writing the scene from a different angle. Or maybe try putting it somewhere later, the story might not be ready for it yet.
