I stare at the lamp in my hands. Once a blessing, now a curse.

"You lied!" I cry out, tears in my eyes.

The genie hums. Are they amused by my pain? By the blood on my hands? "An eye for an eye. I told you, didn't I?"

"Yeah...but—it wasn't a proper warning!"

"What makes a warning 'proper'?" They hum again. "When it's written in red? Or when it finally comes to pass?"

You're on a date when *it* happens. They happen during important events in your life, like birthdays. But this is a second date so what's so important about it?

Your vision blurs and suddenly you are looking through the eyes of someone else. A guy is at the door. His smile is too bright. He walks in without you telling him so. The door closes. He tries to strangles you...

You blink out of the vision with a sharp gasp. You stare at the guy across you. He gives you that same bright smile you thought was cute.

Not anymore.

"We need your help," she said calmly.

"Oh." The voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once. "With what?"

"The sun will explode in an estimate of three days. We won't be able to send any space craft or shuttle fast enough. Please, if you could—"

There was a vibration in the air. The sky turned orange, then back to blue, in a split second.

"There," the voice spoke again. "Done."

In the vacuum of space, a giant eye stared at you.

It is unnatural for you to be here, the entity echoed in your mind. This is my domain.

"I came for humanity," you whispered, frozen. "To see what was beyond the stars."

The entity went silent. Then, softer: Very well. Your kind may pass but they shall not know about your existence. Deal?

You look down on Planet Earth...then take a deep breath.

"Yes."

Ghost Writer

“I used to throw a mighty axe.” A cold wind slapped me in the face as he demonstrated. Ghosts made everything cold.

I stopped typing and looked at him. “Wasn’t that dangerous?”

His bald head gleamed a sickly blue. “You know I was quite a daredevil back in the day, eh, Agnes?”

I nodded. “Is that how you died?”

Gerald shook his head. The lights blinked and went out. “I don’t really like to talk ‘bout that, Agnes.”

I lit a candle. “I’m sorry. But a biography isn’t complete without mentioning how the person died, though.”

He sighed. “Very well.”
