Posting this, because it’s important for the health of the fandom.
I will say this again, and I will never stop saying it.
Do not let yourself be bullied into apologising or believing you are a bad person, because you like problematic characters or writing certain topics in fiction. The world over, bad guys are being loved. They move a story and often have plenty components of humanity to them you are allowed to appreciate, despite the bad ones. Whether a character is portrayed as a villain or not is not relevant in a fandom based on murderers (vampire fandoms in particular). Do not allow others to make you feel bad for being interested in the minds and workings of problematic characters. Without such interests, psychology today would not even exist. Understanding someone’s bad moves, is the key to civil discourse and being able to try and help someone.
Writing fanfiction and RP with problematic characters, exploring their experience and enjoying writing it, does not make you a bad person, nor does it reflect on your personality, abilities or moral compass in real life. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, let yourself be told otherwise! Other writers or fandom critics do not know you. Do not give them the pleasure of believing they do. Only you and the people close to you know who you really are. It is their judgements alone you should take to heart.
People are completely allowed to have their own opinions and should be completely allowed to share them with you, but no one has the right to tell you what you are, based on their world view. That version of you only exists in their head and has no dominion over you.
Just because someone is angry or offended, does not mean they are right. Just because they scream the loudest, does not mean you are obligated to be silent.
