From California based Rufskin: The "Munga," or mini-sunga, is a Brazilian style swim brief with a loose waist and seamless pouch. Wear it relaxed and let your body do the talking.
Funny name, serious truck. It’s a DKW (er, “Auto Union”) Munga; which stands for Mehrzweck UNiversal Geländewagen mit Allradantrieb or, Multi-purpose universal all-terrain vehicle with all-wheel-drive. Built from 1956-1968, The Munga was meant for military work although it would also find some civilian uses. The Federal Republic of Germany joined NATO in the spring of 1955 and set up a new defense force, the Bundeswehr. that same year an new all-purpose vehicle was already being developed for its use. That vehicle became the Munga. Part of the Allied program for the rearmament of Germany, A competition to develop a new light, off-road military machine for German and NATO use was kicked off in 1953 by Theodor Blank, who would become Germany’s first postwar defense minister in 1955. Borgward, Porsche, and Auto-Union all responded; Borgward with a Goliath-based vehicle, Porsche with the 597 Jagdwagen, and Auto-Union with the prototype Munga. The Porsche was the faster and more capable truck, but it was also very costly to produce. The Munga used mechanical pieces from the relatively cheap F91, better known as the 3=6 or #Sonderklasse - including the punchy 896-cc two-stroke triple, but had a permanent 4WD setup and, obviously, a shell totally unlike the civilian sedans. Some early prototypes were made of aluminum, but when the #Munga went into production in October, 1956, the bodies were made from steel. Though intended for Military use, and most were built for military purposes - not just for the #Bundeswehr but also for other militaries - they also found a civilian market for forestry work and in places were roads were rough. They were built in São Paulo by DKW-Vemag and even sold in North America under the DKW label as the DKW Bronco (before Ford found that name) - this is a ’63. The Munga was built until December of 1968, in the anticipation of another NATO-wide competition reaching a replacement for it, but the “Europa Jeep” never did materialize. Long after the Munga had gone out of production and #AutoUnion had been sold to Volkswagen, the old Munga platform, now VW’s intellectual property, was dusted off to form the basis of the VW Iltis in 1978. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLFNKhFFUza/?igshid=qgojz1tc7g2o

The Goliath Jagdwagen Type 34 from 1958 and now. It was the unsuccessful competitor to the DKW Munga and since approx. 80 were built, this is a rare machine.
