#Repost @colvinology Oude Mûre Tilquin À l'ancienne, a traditional Belgian lambic brewed with blackberries from Gueuzerie Tilquin (@gueuzetilquin), and the Master Grade Hazel Rah Second Form . The aroma on this beer is packed with blackberry jam, citric acid, oak barrel, and more funk than a mid 70s Parliament album. You also get some more high-brow aromas like the scent of hay, wet earth, and the kind of cold, dark, cellar you'd lure someone into by promising them a fine vintage. The sip is juicy, tart, funky, and a bit sour, with flavors of blackberry juice, oak, green apple, and lemon. There's a grounded earthiness that screams "red wine" to me...but I don't know enough about the flavors of wine to talk more intelligently about it. The tart, sour, and funky flavors balance each other out quite well, and along with the refreshing hit of unripe blackberry, make this perhaps the world's first crushable top shelf lambic. But maybe I'm the only one who slams lambics like juice. Either way, the important thing to ask is: did I already use that Cask of Amontillado joke in another review? When I was typing it it seemed familiar. whatever, I'm keeping it. This is an incredible sour from an incredible brewery, and even if your bloodline is too weak for incredible sours, you may still like this one. Seriously though, this is a banger, and I feel absolutely spoiled to have access to so many amazing lambics. If you've never had a Tilquin, go track some down. You deserve it.
