I think having my head popped off like a Barbie and reattached properly would solve a lot of my problems, actually. (Mostly I want someone to massage the muscles that feel like they go into my skull cause they hate me)

What Are You Doing For Yourself Today?
When I speak to one of my friends, she often asks me this question while we talk about how we are feeling - physically, mentally and emotionally.
I have an answer most times because I intend to do things for me though those are the very things that slip through the cracks of my day. It can often feel like there isn’t enough room or time for me and to take care of everyone that needs you. It’s impossible so when you crawl into bed and realize you haven’t done anything FOR YOU - you resign and accept that sleep might really be the only self care that you have time for.
I’m not complaining about sleep being a form of self-care. Everyone deserves the time to nap and turn off from the world. And naps are good for you - sleep helps to promote healing on cellular levels and can truly turn your day around. Maybe it is a nap. Or just some quiet, a few pages in a book or a walk. I figured out, for me, sometimes a nap doesn’t really need to involve sleep.
I have a theory that any bit of rest you give your body, heart and mind - can and should be considered a nap. Sure laying in the bed feels like the way to go. But any break is a way for you to recharge on the level you need at that time. The issue might be finding the time to “nap” so we circle back to what are you doing for you? What time can you demand in your day that can be just for you?
Right now I’m battling through an injury so finding a space where I can be happy about what feels like forced rest is proving to be quite a difficult feat. But even in my most grumbly of grumps I did something for me today and I did it twice - I watched two movies. The first one was alone. I just took the time I had in bed and chose something I thought I would love and would make me feel just a little better about the situation I am now in.
Sounds like a weird way to combat the helplessness that’s come along with this injury but I can tell you it helped. For two hours I laid still and didn’t think about how long this was going to take to feel better or how much medicine I was going to have to take to make that happen. I let my mind rest and enjoy and just be. When my husband came into bed, we watched another movie and that felt like a little bit of quiet in the crazy that our world had been the last week.
I was able to take my mind off of what was happening, a nap of sorts, and not only heal my body but I felt in control to make the decision about something I felt would make me feel ok. Because sometimes we all just need that, to be in control of at least a little bit of our happinesses. We need to know we were a part of the decision feel ok.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what it means to do things for yourself. Grand or small these gestures are necessary, and having someone ask me helps remind me that I am entitled to a “nap”, a break and some self care - even if it’s just watching the best version of “Little Women” I’ve ever seen (shouts to Greta Gerwig for making me happy, for taking me away from this, and for making me feel like there was something else other than the pain) and really enjoying Jojo Rabbit more than I thought I would.
But some of the credit goes to Ari - who always uses her words purposefully, who is grateful for life even when it’s hard, who asks me with these specific words -
What are you doing for yourself today?
How long can I keep turning my TENS unit back on?
I can totally sleep with it on, right?

Working through the pain... 😖
Hi Bunnies.
Gym 4 times last week.
Weight loss is stalled but I know why.
I think I have strained my left groin muscle. Really sucks.
Here’s a cute selfie.

Turns out the breast pain I’ve been experiencing the last couple of week is from a strained titty muscle. I’m on a crap ton of ibuprofen and currently compressing my chest to help keep things in place, but turns out that lets me really feel where the injury is, so I’m also on the heating pad hoping to relax it.
Beware the titty strain. The titty strain is not fun.
