❝ Of course. ❞ the Prince of Dorne speaks to him as if he is speaking to one of his children, a tone that Arianne finds rather condescending. He doesn’t speak for a moment, which at least isn’t surprising, pretending he’s thinking about or that he simply is doing nothing.  ❝ Your position in the Council isn’t what it used to be. Every person that has power wants the throne. War...more war is imminent. Forgive my curiosity...but in which case would you need my help?❞

Everyone seems to have an opinion on his actions, or rather the lack thereof, and if nothing else, Everyone seems to want revenge these days. The Starks up North, even his own nieces and daughter in the South. But everyone is impatient, no one seems to actually think things through. Doran has been patiently listening to them without bothering to correct anyone. (He only wishes Arianne could learn the lesson he is trying to teach her: just like in cyvasse, a victory requires forethought. a wrong move could dictate the entire game). Let them think he is a coward, an idiot, someone that let his sister and her children’s brutal death go unpunished. Opinions will not change the outcome. 

From what the Prince of Dorne has heard, Varys might be different. He’s clever, he’s a snake  — a different kind than Oberyn. Perhaps Doran should give him the benefit of the doubt and believe the rumours that he is indeed clever, but he is far from trusting him. ❝Is that what you think, Lord Varys?❞ he says slowly, turning his gaze from the gardens below to the man standing next to him  ❝My family seems to think that I let go things very easily. You disagree?❞

 ❝It is.❞ Even though Doran likes dressing well, he will rarely spend any time on shopping for clothes or for anything related to how he looked, and how he smelled. Still, he has to admit that the perfume is making him feel better too, as if he just got out of those baths he loves having.  ❝Thank you. But enough about me.❞ he doesn’t like talking about himself, after all, even if it’s just about what he wears. Or maybe he is not used to compliments  ❝I am more interested in hearing about you. Oberyn will be late.❞

A hint of a smile forms to his lips, even though perhaps he should be offended or at the very least annoyed. Yet this young woman reminds him of his daughter, as if the same streak of defiance runs through both. But other than this faint smile, one that might have been missed if someone did not know him well, he does not react and for a long moment he does not say anything.

When he speaks again, his words are, as always, calculated.  ❝What do you wish to do then?❞
