A major part of my AU is that Ford, along with any human member of the Pines family, are not given immortality. The idea of the Ford having immortality was proposed by Bill when they were able to finally coexist together. For the time frame of when this proposed, it was around the mid to late 1980’s, before Eliana was created.
With Bill’s help, Ford was able to reconnect with Stan and start rekindling their relationship. With the twins able to rekindle their relationship, this was able to help Ford reconnect back to their mother and start a relationship with Shermie. Because of this rekindling, Ford didn’t want to move on in the world without the rest of his family. And even if Ford did agree to having immortality, the others probably wouldn’t have wanted the same fate.
This was a very serious topic for Bill and Ford, and wanting to respect Ford’s decision to stay mortal, Bill agreed. This is why when Ford was reaching his sixties, Bill temporarily took time off of being Deal Maker to spend time with him before he passes at 92. Because of this choice, Eliana stepped up to be temporary Deal Maker for her dad until he returns back to work. When Ford does pass, Bill is overcome with grief. Markus (Shifty), Eliana and Aurora all grieve with their dad over the loss of their father. The three of them take time off of their work to comfort and mourn with their dad as much as they can. Markus has more lenience to mourn, since he isn’t a Muse like his younger sisters.
During the early years of Bill’s loss, word spread that the Muse of Deal’s husband was officially dead among other immortal/long living beings. This led to an influx of suitors, people looking for hookups, and many worshippers trying to shoot their shot with the grieving Muse. None of these suitors got what they wanted, only a silent rejection from the Muse and all their letters being set on fire. For roughly twenty years, Bill was almost reclusive. He barely left home unless it was to try and visit his kids while they were working off world, spend some time with his parents back on Euclyida and occasionally travel through other dimensions to reminisce about his past with Ford. During these years of grieving, Bill would drown himself in wine or any sort of alcohol he could get his hands on. This deeply worried his kids, but they knew they couldn’t completely stop him from drinking his grief away. But this eventually came to a hold when one day, Bill returned back home with a large moth egg from one of his outings, which eventually hatched to reveal his new child, Hecate.
All he did was ask her what flower that was and she went into professional yapper mode.
