“Of course you have - so what else is new?” 

She loosed a soft sigh as she moved closer to peer at the sketch, quirking an eyebrow slightly before turning her halved gaze towards him, “Well...not to be obtuse, but...why wouldn’t there be an infestation in my lungs? You infested me? With parasitic entities? Parasites of any kind don’t tend to stick to one place when there’s room to flourish.”

She allowed her weight to press into her palms, effortlessly hoisting herself up onto the counter, legs hanging listlessly, “I was more speaking in regards to the manipulation of my surroundings, the control over plants and the like, but do continue - I’m curious as to what else you’ve unearthed.”

“Let me rephrase that - shoot you and then you get to go through the awesome agony that is the reformation process, also known as dying in reverse...happy?”

She sat beside him, legs crosses and swinging idly as she looked at him pointedly from where she perched.

“...and the binoculars are hanging around your neck - if you’re planning on committing murder, you’re going to have to be a little more proactive.”

Garrett didn’t answer right away. He looked at Lestat — really looked at him — and whatever clever remark might’ve come first never made it to his mouth.

Instead, he stepped closer, slow and deliberate, until the space between them felt intentional. Not a challenge. Not a flirt. Just presence. “Alright,” he said quietly. “Then don’t be.” No qualifiers. No sharp edges. Just an open door.

He tilted his head, voice dropping into something gentler than anyone would expect from him. “You don’t have to entertain me. You don’t have to be impressive or loud or… anything tonight.” A pause, steady and grounding. “You can just exist. I’ll sit with you. We can let the hours pass without trying to fill them.”

For a moment, he rested a hand on Lestat’s back — not possessive, not demanding — just warm, anchoring. “You’re not alone right now,” Garrett said simply. “And I’m not going anywhere. Let's find a place to rest for the day. The last thing we need is to be caught outside at dawn."

Garrett turned at the sound of his voice, slow and curious rather than startled, as if he’d been half-expecting him all along. The words landed and stuck — not because they were dramatic, but because of how unguarded they sounded. Lestat, of all people, admitting need. That alone earned him a long, assessing look and a crooked smile that tugged at one corner of Garrett’s mouth.

“Well,” he drawled lightly, eyes bright with interest, “that’s one hell of a thing to admit.” He didn’t close the distance right away, content to let the space between them breathe. Garrett had learned that the most dangerous beings liked choosing their own steps. “You don’t strike me as the type who does things he ‘shouldn’t.’ You strike me as the type who does exactly what he wants and dares the universe to complain.”

He tilted his head, studying Lestat openly, unafraid. Curious. “So you saw me,” Garrett continued, voice easy but intent. “You’re here.” A beat — then softer, more honest. “Guess that means I mattered enough to risk it.” His smile shifted, losing some of its edge. “You don’t have to justify that to me. Our existence is a lonely one."
