Felicity didn’t know exactly where she was going, but it didn’t bother her too much. It was the first time in years she’d felt earth and grass and gravel beneath her, and she watched as the final hours of sunlight were shining in through the trees. The forest was more beautiful than she’d remembered it to be. The birds had quietened down, their song not as loud as it had been in the mid day, and she knew that it wouldn’t be long until darkness descended on the forest.
She had been walking since midnight the night before, having escaped when the bells were ringing loudly to announce the 12th hour, and eversince she lost the horse on her journey, she had been on foot. A tiredness crept up on her, but she was determined to put as much ground as possible between her and the North Kingdom. Her leg ached, she had never gone on such a long journey since she received her injury a few years ago, and the pain caused her a slight limp.
She rounded the corner of the forest path, and drew in a sharp breath when her eyes met those of a man’s. She felt her skin grow pale and and her blood ran cold as she saw him, but he didn’t appear to be a guard or a soldier. She did her best to ignore him at first, and keep moving but he was right on the path. “Hello” Felicity said, her voice a little weak from the tiredness. Her hands wrung together as she grew nervous of the stranger. “Excuse me, I’m…I’m just passing through”
