Today is #museumselfieday and I thought I would use this as an excuse to re-introduce myself. My name is Christeah, and I am very lucky/grateful to have been working in museums and archives for over 5 years. I'm VERY passionate about museums and making history accessible through social media and tours, and I just generally love talking to people!! I have cultivated a small community of history nerds and museum pros on my YouTube channel where I share long form content discussing museums and niche historical topics, and we have a grand old time over there.

Selfies: An Evolution

The selfie we know today has evolved from a long tradition of pictures used to preserve our stories. African Americans have long recognized the power of images and used them to document moments – from the monumental to everyday. In the 19th and 20th century, African Americans often used photography as a way to challenge stereotypes and reclaim their identities.
