'Kitty's Dream of Fairyland ' by Louis Wain, (1860 - 1939).
Adobe: That 5 page document looks REALLY long! Would you like me to summarize it for you :)
Me:
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
just overheard a mum in the museum ask her seven-year-old child ‘shall we say bye-bye to the skull?’

hello, everyone! i was able to download and upload the entire series (which was too difficult, holy hell), and it is now available to watch.
i'm also going to upload the series with closed captioning in english and spanish! (si! se habla español.)
please let me know if there are any issues with the uploads. if, god forbid, it's taken down again, i'm very prepared to put it all back up.
if y'all have any suggestions, please leave those as well. (like if you'd like for me to put it on another shared drive, convert it to a different video player, etc.)

i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
In my very last term of university, months before I was to graduate with an Anth/Classics, double major, I signed up for an archeological field school that would have given me one of the final credits I needed to graduate.
I was told I could not attend the field school, despite having signed up with no issues. I was never given a proper reason, and it left me in a mad scramble to find another course that would've fulfilled the requirements I needed to graduate. It was very stressful, and I was hurt. Why couldn't I join the field school? I even had digging experience at that point! I was (I thought) a prime candidate.
Well.
Yesterday, I spoke with a colleague who has worked on that field school for many years. They asked me why I never went, despite having all the schooling and experience one might expect for this kind of thing. When I told them I had tried, but was told I couldn't come by the professor, they were shocked for a moment, but something clicked. I mentioned I wasn't able to attend extracurriculars because I was working full time on top of my school workload. I didn't know the professor super well. And apparently, I hadn't sucked up to him enough. I wasn't in the fan club. And it cost me a life changing opportunity.
i see posts here about how people are so mortified when they are acknowledged as being a regular customer somewhere that they never return. cowards. the employees at taco bell treat me like a celebrity. like royalty. i am their strange little pet customer who gets traded along as staff comes and goes. they know my car before i even speak in the drive-thru speaker. today i was 2 hours late and she ran over and squealed that she "thought i'd left them!" and that she "made my order with extra love!" and you what, she did
it's funny that this is getting notes again, because last night i went to the thai place in my neighborhood. it's run by a family and during covid times i ate there literally almost every day. later i cut back on eating out so much and hadn't been there in two years but last night we went and ate inside for the first time ever and the owner ran over to say hello and ask how i was, and repeated our old regular order. it was sweet. it's so easy to feel like you are an island, but stuff like this reminds you that you are part of a community.

Since it's definitely sweater season, I felt like doing a deep dive into a really unique and interesting bit of knitting history: the Cowichan sweater, sometimes also called the Canadian sweater.
Spinning and weaving among tribes in the Pacific Northwest is something that goes back to pre-colonial times, using wool from domestic dogs and wild mountain goats.
(photo of the now-extinct breed, the Salish Wool Dog)
The wool was then woven into stunningly warm garments and blankets, like the famous chilkat blanket.
(Chilkat Blanket, Saint Louis Art Museum)
With colonization brought the introduction of domestic sheep, which could be reliably herded and used for wool.
It's not entirely clear who introduced knitting to the Cowichan tribe, but it's clear by the early 20th century, an industry had grown up around selling hand-knit sweaters with traditional Native design motifs on them.
Holy fuck. I remember having a party in the mid 00s, all of us were drunk and having a good time, and this FUCKING FILM ASSHOLE recommends throwing on "Requiem for a Dream." And it woulda been one thing if the fucker was dragged down with the rest of us (about ten peeps or so), but no, he went to 'have a smoke' with a girl who was there for THE ENTIRETY OF THE MOVIE. Came back in at the end, both of them giggling and stopped dead in their tracks while we were all just sullen and sober while the double-headed dildo scene went on in the background. The glares were not enough, I want the time back. It's been two decades and I want that time back still.
Who the fuck puts on requiem for a dream at a party!?
I will say, Requiem for a Dream had a killer soundtrack but I couldn't stop thinking about anime when I finally watched the movie. Because my first encounter with that iconic song was in a Bleach AMV in like 2010 and so I was like "wow they got the song from that anime music video I liked so much in this film!!!!"
