Fanfiction Writer Asks: - Thanks so much for asking!
15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?
I DO Have oc’s! Err, well, one OC. .. well, no, that’s not accurate either. I think it’s better to say I have a lot of original characters, but they’re not fanfiction related at all. I did make one Fairy Tail oc in the past who I keep in my heart and wonder about inserting into a story or not, but I’ve never fully committed.
As for names- I know there are some people who look up name meanings and find something that fits them, or explains their personality, or some other meanings. I don’t generally do that. I just sort of look for names that feel right? Or if the character is based off a specific culture, location and what not, I’ll look up names that fit that and see if something jumps out at me.
For the OC I created for fairy tail, I named her Taiga Hudson- and honestly, there was no other reason to name her that asides from the fact I just thought it sounded nice!
For one of my original stories, however, I do have a character who has a specific name for a purpose, but it’s plot related. If it doesn’t weave into the plot, though, I just try and find something that feels like them. Sort of like they see it and go, “Hey, that’s me!” And I go with it.
25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?
I have only made myself a little teary-eyed once. And that was when I was Writing “The Volunteer!” Both chapters have deep emotional connections for me. Mostly because I wrote them while under extreme stress. The story, however, brought it out of me just from the content. I still need to get the third and final part to that posted....
35) Do you share your story ideas with anyone else or do you keep them close to your chest?
Oooh! That depends on the story and the people I’m talking to! Some big, original ideas of mine, I keep to myself- mostly under lock and key. As I want to keep those secret for now. But a few of my fanfiction ideas, I have given details to a friend or two. Usually when I’m stuck with a plot hole and can’t find a way to dig myself out. Having someone I trust to bounce ideas off of can be extremely helpful! - but I do end up having to divulge more information than needed.
Once you get me talking, I have a tendency to not shut up. Ehehe.
