PLAYING PIANO WITH LAURIE LAURENCE JUST HAS TO INCLUDE...
laurie had invited you over.
you two often talked about the different books you liked, and so he invited you over so that he could show you some more of his favorites
so, at the time that laurie had arranged, you went to his house
but, as fate would have it, laurie was not ready because he still had to finish his lessons from that morning.
but he told you to just wait because it wouldn’t be but a minute more
and so you did
it wasn’t long before you started inching toward the piano
it was second nature, really.
you had always wanted to play it
and it was right there
his grandfather wasn’t even home.
no one would notice...
you started to play it softly - a familiar song that you had memorized a long time ago
it reminded you of your family and friends - those who you still knew and those who had been lost
time didn’t seem to pass the way it should have when you played
you didn’t notice how long you had been waiting for laurie
it didn’t really occur to you just how long you had been playing until laurie sat down next to you
your hands froze above the keys
for a moment you just stared at him with wide eyes.
he was smiling at you kindly and you found it hard to go on.
the two of you were so close on that bench. close enough that you could just...
“keep playing, (y/n).”
you blinked and pulled away, your fingers touching the keys gently before you started to play again
you were acutely aware of laurie's presence beside you, and you tried to best to not get flustered
because yes, you had a crush on laurie
jo would never let you live it down
but it’s not like he knew
in all the time you knew laurie, he never seemed to like anyone in that way
he was just a good friend to everyone
“you’d teach me to play, wouldn’t you?”
the sound of laurie’s voice, low and hopeful, pulled you out of your thoughts
“you don’t play?”
he shook his head
“i’d have to come over more.”
he smiled and nodded slowly
that made your heart skip a beat
“you’d have to tell your grandfather.”
“he always wanted me to learn.”
that caught you off guard. the march sisters had told you that laurie’s father had been disowned because he married a musician and so all music was, essentially, banned.
that was why no one played their beautiful piano
“you wouldn’t be able to get rid of me, laurie.”
you tried to joke with him, but when you looked at him, there was something serious in his gaze.
but soft.
warm.
happy.
caring.
passionate.
loving...
his lips were gentle when they brushed yours, careful but with longing.
it was a short kiss, and he pulled away from you slowly, almost as if he didn’t want it to end.
“play for me.”
and you did, your fingers drifting gracefully from key to key
and when you caught him staring at you, the warmth in your chest only grew
AND FLUFF ENSUES.
