I don’t know...sometimes I just feel like there’s all this love inside me that I’ve always just wanted to share but no one really ever seemed to want it you know? I tried to give it to my dad, and he chose to just up and leave. I tried to give it to my mom, but she decided it wasn’t enough and chose to drown her pain in pills. I tried to give it to my brother, but he’s just found the most hurtful means by which to shove it back in my face. I tried to give it to this wonderful girl once...she just didn’t want it.

There have been other girls since then, but they seem to want just about everything except that.

But that kid over there, currently having her best life surrounded by warmth and a stuffed wolf at her side? She never once even questioned the love I gave her, and is always more than up for accepting more. And I swear sometimes, she’s the only reason I’m around. My purpose for even existing.

Luke glanced up to see the picture Ripley was referencing and chuckled, “Oh that’s Skylar’s mother, Keagan. Sky is actually in that stroller. A friend of mine spotted us around town and took the picture to ‘commemorate Lucas Jolene Benson showing motherly instinct’. He’s an asshat.”

Ripley glanced back at the picture then back at Luke with a knowing smirk. “I’m inclined to agree with your assessment, if he really believed it was going to be a rare, one-off demonstration.”
