tbh thats almost as good as scott having a "special geometry" mutation
yeah!! i love things like that that aren’t the Main Thing(TM) of the mutation but are related to it in some way...it gives a sense of the mutation being something that affects the person and their body in complex ways rather than just being a superpower slapped on them for genre/plot reasons. i love it
extends leg bc overwatch AU or x-men AU
send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it || Accepting
OVERWATCH:
Just like in canon, Braig’s biological father, Eadric, is a literal shitstain. Braig runs away when he’s very young, and never looks back. I’m making this up as I go, so, don’t ask me for details, but he still becomes a child soldier.
I’m not gonna say he has the Force, since that’s absolutely not a thing in OW, but. Can we imagine some sort of cybernetic implants/’upgrades’ that allow for an electro-magnetic ‘telekenisis’ projected from his hands? Or something similar to that? Also, getting on the cool wire-cyborg aesthetic you could get from this. I think this was done to him when he was too young to have a say. While this is awful, it also meant that he had plenty of time to learn to use it. (I also like to think that Obi’s still his mentor. Maybe there’s an entire order or gang or something that has modifications like that?) So he can throw metal things around.
He still fights with swords. Maybe it was determined that using guns isn’t as useful when your ranged attacks are, like, hucking cars or whatever. And his swords are still his babies. Maybe they’re normal swords, maybe they’re still like lightsabers. Or, metal swords with some sort of heated/plasma filament along the edge? I like that idea. Someone give me an in-depth list of OW scientific advancement levels.
I dunno if he’d be in OverWatch specifically, but he’d definitely be some kind of freedom fighter A-La-Lucio. This kid in his canon is born and raised to protect the innocent and fight for a cause. That’s definitely something that transfers over to this verse.
100% chance he thinks Ana Amari is one of the coolest people ever. Which makes him just like everyone else.
He’s still shit at mechanics. If his implants stop working, he’d have to go pouting to someone else to get them fixed up.
I could also dip on this one and say he’s just Normal Braig who somehow wound up in the OW universe, but, that’s kind of a cop-out, and not really an AU.
X-MEN: (Largely based of the Evolution cartoon, because fight me, that was my favourite incarnation)
He’s not telekinetic in this verse - he’s got healing powers. You know, psychic surgery, mending wounds, that kind of thing. Takes him a bit of training to get halfway decent, and he’s beyond irritated that it doesn’t help him in combat, but he is glad that he can help his friends.
He wants to be a doctor when he grows up, but he’s afraid that, because he’s a mutant, people wouldn’t want him to treat them, or that he just wouldn’t get hired, so, when his powers start showing, he tries to hide them. If I remember right, natural powers typically begin to manifest themselves at puberty, so it was a bad time for him.
He doesn’t really like school in this verse. Don’t get me wrong, he loves learning, but, he’s a pansexual Native American mutant foster kid in an upper-middle-class, very white American high school with rampant bullying of all varieties. He’d almost rather take his courses online, and you can bet he tries to avoid going anywhere alone between classes.
He VERY MUCH LIKES the martial arts training they get in the X-manor. As I’m sure you can guess, gym class is a less than enjoyable experience for him, so he likes having the way to burn off energy in a safe environment. He also just likes martial arts. He finds it a good stress-reliever, and likes the philosophies behind it all.
If you don’t think this kid complained to high heaven about the costumes and codenames, you’re wrong. He understood their importance (remember, he wants to hide his mutant-hood), but, why are the costumes so brightly coloured, why are the names so weird, and why don’t we get to pick our own? Kurt’s named after a bug, and Jean doesn’t even have one, for crying out loud!!!
I'm just sayin
no 1 has disproved my "Jean Valjean is wolverine" theory -Valjean's entire character arc consists of him being seemingly invincible and constantly taking on new identities -wolverine has been around a long time & existed as many different people, constantly taking on new identities -Valjean and wolverine are both somewhat defined by their tendency towards adopting children -literally the same actor what more proof do u need -it's the truth
@thelittlechibi genes mutated by the x-gene can be inherited just like anything else! and some mutated genes may be inherited while others aren’t, and mutations can be inherited from either or both parent, and the x-gene can go on to mutate them further...all sorts of things can explain that tbh. and presumably you’d need to inherit an x-gene along with the mutated genes for the mutation to manifest, so theoretically people could ‘carry’ mutations without being mutants themselves
ok but imagine mutant tumblr discourse about psionic stigma?? the whole “we shouldn’t have to hide, we should express our whole selves” hypocrisy when mutants still tell telepaths to never use their abilities…. this is a discourse is begging to happen
homo killcrop is (depending on who you ask) is either a genetic predecessor to homo superior mutants whose mutations are present from birth instead of manifesting later, or just what you call any kind of mutant who was born already mutated.
huh! that’s interesting, i didn’t know that
people assuming that mutants who are visibly mutated and/or use their mutations in public are superheroes. people mistaking mutant names for superhero codenames. people assuming mutants are able to help in crises just by virtue of their being mutants. i want to see consequences of the fact that the x-men (and other mutant superheroes) are some of the most visible mutants out there.
