After reading this 2018 article from Spikes, I realize that it was destiny for Tamberi and Barshim to share the Olympic gold medal.

Both came back from ankle injuries and encouraged each other on their shared road to Olympic glory.

This is the first gold for Italy in Athletics since 2008. This is the first-ever gold for Qatar in Athletics, and second gold in the country’s Olympic history.
