I know mute all doesn't stop all the BMing, but it does help sometimes when I screw up and wonder why I'm not being spam pinged or flamed in chat. There's a moment of relief where I think, "Hey, these guys aren't so bad!" before I remember, "Oh yeah, I had to mute them less than 10 minutes in." At least I can pretend, though.

“Why do people think muting all helps everything? The damage is already done when someone starts flaming, and muting them after isn't always helpful. If you just mute all at the very start, you're gonna miss out on meeting some nice people and seeing shots (that are too complex to be pinged) called. Plus, for me at least, having everyone muted just stresses me out more. If someone has shit to talk to me I want to know, so that I can report them.”
