little cmbyn theory?
hey, so i was thinking about that scene in cmbyn that literally gave the movie its name. so in that scene Oliver tells Elio to “call me by your name and i’ll call you by mine”, and also, one of the soundtrack songs (that plays at the end of the movie) is called Visions of Gideon, now - bear it with me - i know that Gideon was Jewish and its relation to the song is that Gideon was a military leader and he defeated an entire army with only 300 of his men and that, before going going to battle, he recevied visions of Yahweh (God) saying that he’d be victorious, wich kind of implies faith and hope (to Elio and Oliver)
BUTTTT
the first time i heard the song i thought (for some stupid and ignorant reason) that Gideon was greek. I KNOW ITS WRONG, IT WAS AN ASSUMPTION AND I’M SORRY.
but - bare it with me -
i thought about how in Greek Mythology, they used to believe that humans were originally made with four arms, legs, eyes, two mouths, noses, etc.. and Zeus believed that those “humans” could overpower him and he was scared to lose his throne. so, he casted a curse on those humans, splitting them in half and condemning them to search their other half forever. that was when one of the first terms of “soulmates” came from.
and when that scene from cmbyn happened that was the first thing that popped in my head.
“call me by your name and i’ll call you by mine, cause we are one” “we are whole again” “we are together” “we are complete” “we finally found each other”
so yeah, this is my little theory about the movie, and i know i messed up about gideons “place” but hey, it still makes a little bit of sense right???
sorry if i mispelled anything, english is not my native language. ;)
