Look at this, adorable Credit © 🎬 🖌 ✅ @sheldricktrust We have not one, not two, but three baby elephants to introduce you to today! The celebrations began in Ithumba, when Wendi arrived with a gorgeous little girl in tow. That was just the beginning, however: Further south in Voi, two more wild-living orphans appeared after an absence of nearly a year, each with a new member of their family to show off! When we last saw Edie and Mweya in January, both were heavily pregnant. In the intervening months, they gave birth — each to a perfect little boy — and successfully navigated the difficult dry season. As soon as conditions allowed, they made the 100-kilometer trek back “home,” clearly eager to introduce us to their beautiful babies. We’ve named Edie’s calf Eco and Mweya’s calf Mwitu (which means “wild” in Swahili), and we’re happy to report that both boys are plump and in perfect health. Eco is Edie’s third calf, while Mwitu is Mweya’s first. Both Edie and Mweya are orphans and while they never knew their own mothers, they blossomed in our care and learned how to thrive in the wild. They now embark on the ultimate journey of motherhood, with the skills and support system needed to raise the next generation of wild elephants. She'll always be with me, on my skin and inside of me. Not ever, but forever.
