I read Magical x Miracle on your recommendation! It's actually quite good? I totally wasn't expecting the truth about the Master Wizard ><
Yaaaay!!! I’m glad you liked it omg <3 We need more people in the fandom and we need more people to make content T^T
But anyways yeah, I’ve been dying to talk about the truth about what happened to the Master Wizard for forever now but I’ve not really had anyone to do it with XD
So, to anyone who might be considering reading it, beware the spoilers under the cut!
Let me just start off by saying that Sylth’s death just completely tore my heart apart.
I honestly wasn’t expecting to get so completely attached to him as a character, especially considering we never technically got to see him, except in flashbacks and stuff.
But from what little we saw of him, he just seemed like such an amazing, sweet child.
And you know what, some people in the fandom thought it was kinda disappointing and anticlimactic that Sylth died in a frigging carriage accident, instead of what we’re used to seeing in fantasy series.
But I actually think that, from a storytelling aspect, that was a beautiful and heart-wrenching way to do it.
Because you know what? People don’t always get the death they “deserve”.
Heroes don’t always go out in dramatic acts of heroism. And the way Sylthfarn died really hammers home the fact that despite his status as Master Wizard (at the tender age of 14), he was still human, and more importantly, that he was still a child.
And Magical x Miracle does a really great job of portraying him as the child he was.
Throughout the series, as we get to know Sylthfarn through Glenn’s and Fern’s and everyone else’s flashbacks, we see that yeah, he was so insanely powerful, and sometimes he could be wise beyond his years, but most of the time, he was just another childish brat who would skip out on his duties or play pranks on his best friends or put a spell on his freaking diary to keep other people from reading it.
And the fact that he was only in that town to visit his mother? And that, in the end, he hadn’t even talked to her, had just watched her silently from outside? It’s just...so sad.
This child’s life was nothing short of a tragedy, and he was just so strong and so pure and so good, even until the end.
What makes his death even more emotionally impactful is that, from what little we learned about how the whole body double spell works with the hahze people, it can be assumed that even though he was back at the castle when it happened, as Sylthfarn’s body double, Fern should have been the one that died when Sylthfarn was hit by the carriage. But our beautiful, tenderhearted Sylth, who knew he would be dying soon and who loved his best friend too much to let him die in his place, had actually undone the body double spell himself before leaving on his journey.
And honestly, that fact just kills me.
And I am just so freaking happy for Fern, that he got a new Master in the end, a master who would adore him just as much as Sylth had.
Ok, like. I know you're not gonna be sorry about this, because you've made your opinion quite clear, but because of you I can't help but want to read Magical x Miracle even though I should be studying. Which I am going to do because I have no self-control, and am very super curious about this manga you seem to love so much. I'm not even sorry for myself, because I'm pretty sure I'll be enjoying the hell out of it (we do share a bunch of fandoms). Thanks for that :D
Yaaay!! Omg I’m actually rly happy, hehehe :3
It’s a really adorable and bittersweet manga, and I’d love it if more people read it, because I need more people to obsess over it with because I love it so much and there’s no fandom T^T Everyone else, go read Magical x Miracle too!
You read Magical x Miracle too!!!! I've never seen anyone who has read it! I'm so happy! It's one of my favourite series! I absolutely love Merleawe and her magic and its so cute and sweet! Aww... Now I want to reread it too... though finals... ... (ksye)
*Screaming*
YES SOMEONE ELSE WHO’S READ IT. I need to talk to someone about it omg.
I read it for the first time like....god, it must have been at least 5/6 years ago? I adored it back then, and the drawing style is just sooooo cute. And I absolutely adore the clothes they wear in the series, so I was actually looking for a drawing reference earlier today and that was the first thing that came to mind XD
So I decided to re-read it, and it was such a mistake. I love it so much but there’s no fandom and I have no one to freak out about it with and I’m so sad?
I mean, Glenn is a literal angel, and even though Yue is such a stuffy jackass, he really does care for Mel and I love him so much (he’s my fav tbh). It’s so cute because Yue and Glenn and Vaith become like doting older brothers to Mel, and I just adore seeing her slowly getting closer to Fern and it’s all just so sweet!
And the thing is, it just has SO MUCH POTENTIAL.
And so much room for amazing fanfiction?
Like, what’s the whole deal with Mel and Sylth? Twins separated at birth maybe? I remember that back when I first read it, I had this AU idea where Sylth was actually a transboy who wasn’t out to anyone and they all thought he was a cismale. But then something happened, so he had to erase his own memories of being the master wizard, and using his own powerful magic, he constructed a whole lifetime of memories for himself about living in a little village with his parents and older brother and his name was Merleawe and he was a girl.
It would explain why Mel is so similar to Sylth despite never having met him.
And I just have so many feelings about this? It’s just so sad? Poor Sylth T^T Poor Fern T^T Poor everyone.
The ending was really so sweet though! I only really remember the gist of it, but I do remember I definitely cried XD
