So I probably should be working on those drawing prompts that my lovely followers have sent to my askbox, buuuuuut I got inspo for a MxM AU and so I’ve been working on this for the past little while.
So yeah, AU where twins Merleawe and Sylthfarn attend the Magical Academy of Viegald together.
Sylthfarn is discovered early on by the Black Knights, and soon becomes the Master Wizard of his country.
Now, being the mischievous little devils they are, Sylth and Mel decide to hatch a plan.
They hide the fact that Sylth has a twin sister (and the fact that his twin sister is actually every bit as powerful as him), and Sylth moves out of the little apartment the siblings share, and into the castle.
He attends daily lessons there, and does his duty as a Master Wizard, while still attending school during the day.
But what the people at the palace don’t know is that Sylth and Mel regularly switch places with each other.
On days Sylth doesn’t quite feel like putting up with the stuffy rules of high society or has other plans, Mel dresses up as him and takes his place.
It takes a lot of teamwork, as they have to coordinate with each other where they’ll be on any given day, so that they’re never in the same place where one of Sylth’s groupies can see them.
This is made easier by the fact that in their world, twins’ magic share a unique and very powerful bond, thanks to them sharing a womb for nine months.
Their magic not only gets stronger when they work together, they can also communicate telepathically.
Despite all this though, neither of them have any illusions about being able to keep up the charade for very long. They treat it as a game, to see how long they can keep it up.
It’s exactly four months and 3 days before their cover is blown.
Mel’s the one currently playing the role of the Master Wizard, and she wakes up one morning to see a splash of red on her sheets, and she groans as she realizes that shark week has begun.
She changes into some fresh clothes, telling herself to remember to deal with the dirty bedding later. And off she goes to her lessons with Yue (as it’s a weekend and she has no school).
Unfortunately, she forgot to account for the fact that maids regularly come into Sylth’s quarters during the day in order to clean up.
So she’s startled, to say the least, when she’s goofing off later that day while having lunch with Fern and Vaith, and Yue walks up to her with a very serious look on his face and sits down across from her.
“Sylthfarn,” he says slowly, gently, and Mel straightens up immediately, suspicious. Because Yue is never this nice.
“Yes?” she asks.
“Tell me truthfully,” he says. And there’s a dramatic pause. Then, “Are you injured?”
She’s dumbfounded.
“....what?” she asks.
“I know I always say your studies are important,” Yue continues, “But your health has priority, Sylthfarn. You should have told me about your injuries. We could have cancelled your lessons while you healed.”
Mel is confused for about five seconds more, before suddenly realizing what could have possibly led Yue to such a conclusion, and she can’t help herself, she bursts into hysterical laughter.
It takes her several minutes to get her laughter back under control, while Yue gets slowly more and more annoyed.
“What, exactly, is so funny about this situation, Sylthfarn?” he grinds out.
And Mel, knowing that the jig is up, reaches up to take off her hat, and unclips her long silky hair, so that it falls down her back in a silver waterfall.
Everyone stares at her in shock now as she stands up and holds her hand out to Yue.
“A pleasure to officially meet you, Mr Alistelaford. My name is Merleawe, and I am Sylthfarn’s younger twin.”
There is complete and utter silence for several minutes.
Mel can practically see the moment Yue realizes what the blood on the sheets had meant, as his face flushes a deep red.
He starts stuttering incoherently.
Seconds later, Vaith and Fern both break out into howling laughter, and even Glenn finds himself chuckling quietly.
When everyone has finally quieted down and Yue finally finds his voice again, the first question he grinds out is, “How long?”
“Well, Sylth has always been quite rubbish at speeches...” she says, trailing off as her lips twist up into a smirk.
Vaith and Fern remember suddenly the powerfully moving speech “Sylthfarn” had given at his own inauguration as Master Wizard, and they both break out into hysterical laughter once again.
