"Can we pretend I didn't say that?"
Ai didn’t move. He was still lying on his back on his bunk, staring upwards, but now he was slightly less on the verge of falling asleep. What now kept his eyelids from slapping shut was the ringing silence, knowing that although Momo hadn’t said it explicitly, he was waiting for an answer of some kind, an acknowledgement. Ai had barely even acknowledged it for himself yet, though.
This entire time he’d barely been listening, zoning out as he usually would when Momotarou spoke at him before they went to bed. At some point along the way, Ai had latched on to a random word and listen the rest of the way, so now he was only going off of the little bit he thought he’d heard. He wasn’t sure that he had heard correct, though, and he didn’t want to assume too quickly and flatter himself. He was about 90% sure though, despite his reluctance to admit it.
“Did you just-” He stopped because asking the poor boy to repeat himself wouldn’t help. Aiichirou sat up and rested on his arms which were stretched behind him to support his body. He put his head back again to look up at the bottom of the bunk above him “I’m sorry.” was the only thing he could think to say.
