The Gathering
AIICHIROU.
He who faces himself, finds himself.
As the Clone War scorches its destructive path across the Galaxy, it is the Jedi who bring order to the chaos, though as the war progresses, the number of Jedi has declined and new young-lings are harder to find. When a young-ling is located they are brought to the Jedi Temple and learn quickly that their new family is the Jedi Order. The trials are hard, tests must be passed, but none is as important as The Gathering. It is then that a Jedi’s path will truly begin.
Ai was one in a small group of six Jedi young-lings. By name he only knew Haruka, but he had trained with each of the others in the group before. The young-lings were heading towards a transport ship where an R2 unit and an experienced Padawan were waiting for them. She spoke to them with intimidating authority though she was young herself, contently pacing around the droid.
“You have proved to be the top of your class, and so now is the time of The Gathering. For a Jedi there is no greater challenge, or honor.” She smiled often as she addressed each of them. “The time has come for you to build your own Lightsabers.”
Ai cheered with the rest of the young-lings. The Padawan interrupted their small celebration.
“Be warned: this is no simple task, and many perils lie ahead of you. Where we are going there is no place more sacred to the Jedi.”
As they gathered into the ship, Ai found a seat beside Haruka. He hoped to again gain confidence from being near his friend. “What do you think The Gathering will be like?” he asked Haruka meekly. Ai was younger and smaller but never intimidated by Haruka.

It’s finally happening, the day him & his fellow peers have been waiting for. Having gone through trials & error, constant training & endless determination, he’s ONE step closer to being a full fledged Jedi.
It is when Aiichirou appears next to him, leading to a break in his thoughts. His stoicism never fades, but he chooses his words carefully in order to keep the smaller male motivated.
❝ Just stay alert & we’ll be fine. Don’t worry, okay? ❞
Ai nodded, even more encouraged and excited for the creation of his Lightsaber. He puffed out his cheeks. It was an event he had been nervous about ever since he had been told: ‘Your Lightsaber is your life.’ What if he loses it, or it gets stolen? It’s not only his life, it’s his responsibility. But he won’t worry now. As Haruka reminds him, he remembers to stay focused on the present and not worry about the future. Ai let out a small breath, and then smiled slightly as he imagined what color his Lightsaber will be.
As he waited for their arrival, Ai tried to be patient but was too excited and ended up squirming in his seat. He continued to daydream about his Lightsaber and remind himself to have courage and humility, until they jolted out of hyperspace into a system he didn’t recognize. When the transport landed on an icy planet and the door opened letting in a harsh gust of snow, Ai shivered and unbuckled his seatbelt.
“Not a very hospitable planet...” he hummed hesitantly.
“I think that’s the point,” responded another youngling. Ai wanted to stay close to Haruka as they exited the ship,

“Nitori-san!” Rei called, quickly hurrying to catch up. They had been walking to a group practice, since they rode the same rain, but Rei had gotten distracted by a patch of Queen Anne’s Lace. One he jogged up he caught his breath, holding out a bundle to him. “Here.”
Ai was content to continue walking with his friend. Rei was always gentle and thoughtful. “Ah, are you sure you wouldn’t rather give them to one of your senpais? I think these would be more beautiful with Nanase-san,” he imagined, admiring the small flowers more.
He blinked, surprised by what he said. “Huh? No, of course not! They’re for you, specifically.” He said, his cheeks getting rosy as he said that. He hoped the other would pick up on what he was implying. “I think they look beautiful with you.”
Ai ran his fingers through the small bundle and continued to delight in the flowers’ dainty and delicate form. When he looked back to Rei, he flustered a little as well, and his cheeks tinted in response. “Thank you, Rei-san,” he cooed. “What kind of flower is your favorite?”
“Theres only one way for me to see someone’s face. To touch it, and get a mental picture. But even then everything is black and white….”
“I wouldn’t mind you doing that, if it would really help. But knowing my face wouldn’t be that big of a deal, I don’t think..”
“Are you sure…?”
“Ah, Momo-kun, only if you want to. It’s important that you can feel as comfortable as possible,” he assured then ate more of the berries.
He smiled. “It’s not as great when you don’t have a face to give the friends in your dreams.”
Ai was appreciative of the smile. “I wish I could help with that. You always make me happy when you’re in my dreams.”

He shrugged as he ate. “I mean…nothing specific….just hangi ng out. Though like….people in my dreams don’t really have faces….”
“It’s a pleasant dream though. Maybe you’ll dream again tonight,” he hoped. “Have you imagined what I look like?”
He sighed. “I try….but it’s hard.”
Ai placed his hand on Momo’s back. “I was just wondering for fun. Some of the dreams you tell me about are really great, you know.”
He shrugged as he ate. “I mean…nothing specific….just hangi ng out. Though like….people in my dreams don’t really have faces….”

He waited to be tugged down, sitting with him. “Thats, senpai.”
The grass was very cool but the breakfast was hot so Ai was content. He started to quickly eat. “Did you have a dream last night, Momo-kun?”
“Of course,” he replied. “It’s the only way I can see.”
“Do you want to tell me what it was about?” he asked eagerly.
He was thankful for such a good friend. He smiled, letting Ai help him get his breakfast. “Yeah, outside is fine.”
As they walked outside, Ai got some juices and chocolate milk. He found a place to sit on the grass and started to look around for some ladybugs before he sat, gently tugging Momo down too. “It smelled so yummy in there. My tummy has been rumbling~”

He sniffed. It did indeed smell good, making him smile. “Yeah it does…..”
Nitori happily imagined what kind of yummy breakfast foods were being served. Save for curry, breakfast foods were the only good meals served in the cafeteria. When they walked into the building, the smell got more intense, but there wasn’t much noise at all. Ai brought Momo to get trays. “What foods do you want?” he asked, glancing at the choices. “There are fruits and cinnamon rolls, and breakfast cakes, and eggs and rice. We could make waffles.”
He smiled. “Mmmm….cinnamon roll sounds so damn good. I should probably get fruit too, else senpai will yell at me.”
Ai handed a tray to Momo and led him towards the fruit first. “I’ll get you some fruit then,” he offered, scooping some of the berries onto his own plate then serving some onto Momo’s. He brought his friend to get some of the cinnamon rolls, and he got some of the cake for himself. “Do you want to eat outside?”
