How come chickens can transition so easily

Chickens only have one working ovary, their left one to be exact. If that ovary stops working then the right ovary might start working and produce testosterone, causing the hen to grow rooster plumage, court hens, and crow. It actually doesn't happen too often. here’s an article on it if you want to learn more!

Hello, I have a phobia of birds and they’re everywhere, unavoidable at times. This is a problem because I aspire to be a vet. Do you think I should try to get close to one to help this fear? (Sorry if this is a weird ask.)

I think it would help. Try going to a pet store and just get near the little birds, don't put your hand down or anything, just watch. Then try slowly getting more involved, like going to a friend's house with chickens or ducks and pet one of them, if you're feeling brave see if they'll let you hold one. Once you work up to it, some zoos have an aviary section where you can be near exotic birds and stuff. Don't push yourself too far and go slowly. Just remember that most won't try to hurt you. Question: I've heard it's possible that if a hens ovaries are damaged, they will sometimes become a rooster (crowing, longer tail feathers, rooster like behavior). Is this possible with a rooster turning into a hen? I have a chicken who crowed all the time and acted like a male at first, so I assumed he was a rooster. But now, he stopped crowing, and doesnt have as big of waddles as his brothers, who crow constantly. And he acts more like a hen as well. Is it possible he has turned into a hen?

Hello! What great timing for this ask. recently, Alice has gotten a much bigger comb and actually crowed a couple times! So we aren't really sure what's going on but she could be transitioning.

As for a rooster turning into a hen, I did a bit of digging and found one documented case here.
