My Favourite.... Part 2
This week I’m going to reveal my favourite holiday destination, actor and book.
My Favourite… Holiday Destination: The Caribbean
I have been on two cruises to the Caribbean and there are lots of fantastic islands there.
St Lucia, St Kitts, Antigua - the list goes on…
The weather is amazing most of the time, and the streets are full of colour, sights and sounds.
The beaches are vast and the workers are only too happy to help.
Definitely a place to go if given the opportunity!
My Favourite…Actor: Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is a fantastic actor and my all-time favourite. I won’t pretend I enjoy every film he featured in but I do enjoy most of them.
‘Big’ is one of my favourite films and he is brilliant in that, as well as 'Forrest Gump’ and 'Toy Story’ of course, right through to some of his more recent films like 'Captain Phillips’.
He has also played a variety of roles throughout those films - some as a voice actor, some as a young man and some now as an older man.
This versatility makes him one of the strongest actors in the industry.
My Favourite…Book: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
One of the first books I owned, although sadly I’ve now lost it!
I loved it from the moment I first picked it up, and started my 'love affair’ with the Harry Potter series.
It was just so exciting to read about this magical world, and different characters.
If you haven’t read or watched any of the Harry Potter series then I recommend you do so ASAP, you won’t regret it.
Part 3 will see me name my favourite band, drink and Sporting Icon!
psa: i love... @typerson
"My Favourite..." SIDE CHARACTERS~
Side characters can make a bad story bearable for me and thus a good story even better!
A side character is generally a character who is not greatly focused on and tends to support the main character. Even so, they can be complex and during a series of books can become very prominent in the story. I don't consider love interests, i.e. the one that doesn't get the main lead, to be a side character as they are focused on very heavily.
Buckle in, this is going to be a long post~
Harry Potter Series (J.K. Rowling)
This series has so many side characters which I absolutely adore. Of course, I can't name them all, otherwise this would be a long post! However, I'll name my top 3~
1. Hagrid
Hagrid is wonderful. He is kind and accepting. He's the kind of character which could have gone in a completely different direction, given his history and how people treat him. Yet, he is so caring and loving.
2. Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom.
Okay, I know what you're thinking, they are two people. Shhh.... haha ^^". These two are fantastic side characters. They support and cheer the main characters on. They are complex and unique which is wonderful. They also can stand alone. Neville goes through so much character development and we see him grow from being a timid, yet righteous 11yr old to a young man standing up to the most feared wizard of all time.
3. The Order.
Again, I am cheating. Don't judge me. This was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. The Order is full of great people. The Weasley's, Lupin♥, McGonagall. So much greatness.
Vampire Academy Series (Richelle Mead)
1. Eddie Castille.
This boy goes through such a bad experience in Frostbite and I wasn't really happy with how he was used in the later books, but I loved him anyway. He was such a surprise.
2. Mia Rinaldi.
Mia went through so much development. She turned her attitude around and become such a vibrant character, I just wish we got to see more of her.
3. Abe.
I don't know if this is weird or not, but I love Abe. I think he is hilarious and an intriguing man. I wish we knew more about him! I also like his relationship with Rose.
Skulduggery Pleasant Series (Derek Landy)
Why so many great characters?!
1. The Dead Men.
Ah, breaking rules :p So, I loved the addition of the Dead Men. We heard about them in previous books and I didn't think we would meet them, but then we did!!! And they were wonderful, well... we don't talk about that. What we do talk about is how much I'm in love with Dexter Vex and secretly Anton Shudder... again we don't talk about that. Of course, we can't talk about the Dead Men and not mention Ghastly Bespoke♥ He was one of my favourites from the get go. These men helped to shed light on the past, but also were strong and present in the fight of now.
2. China Sorrows.
This woman. I adore. She is very morally ambiguous, as are many of the characters in these books, but I love that she is intelligent, yet kickass. She has a history and complex relationships with most people. China does what she can to survive, but at the same time will help if she can and wants to. Also, her brother was an amazing character... why does Landy cause me so much pain?
3. Scapegrace and Thrasher.
I had no idea Scapegrace would grow as much as he did. He is a perfect comedy character. We laugh at him, we feel sorry for him and we want him to succeed at something. Anything really. I like his relationship with Thrasher/Gerald, it's quirky and cute even though Scapegrace can be mean.
Darren Shan Saga/Larten Crepsley Saga (Darren Shan)
1. Vancha.
He is hilarious. Gross and unhygienic, but hilarious!
2. Arra Sails
I love her relationship with Larten and I loved getting her backstory in the LC saga. I will get the image of a drunk Larten singing to her about how she is nectar and he wants to spear her hahahaha and people say these are books for children... yeah.
Battle Royale (Koushen Takami)
Shogo Kawada
This is a hard one, he is such a huge character in this book. However, I found him to be more of a side character. I felt the main characters were Shuya and definitely Noriko and Shogo's role became that of a side character whose focus was to support these main two. Shogo was rough, but prepared and able which I liked. He was also kind to those he grew fond of and cared about. And to be honest if anyone is nice to Noriko, I'm going to like them!
Vampirates Series (Justin Somper)
1. Cheng Li.
I loved this character. Granted, it took me a little time to warm up to her. She is strong, intelligent and doesn't like people wasting her time or talent. Yet, she can still be vulnerable.
2. Darcy Flotsam
I thought that Darcy brought a cuteness to these books that was needed. She loves fashion and is a hopeless romantic, yet she is brave and strong and very loyal to the ones she loves.
There are more I can think of, but this post is way too long already! Thank you for reading~
