After a storm was to hit the island, Ennie made himself scarce pretty early int he dinner, claiming he wanted to avoid getting wet on the way back.. But of course, a certain breeder knew the true reason he wanted to avoid that weather. Wishing to sleep before he could hear the thunder and avoid the fear and memories of it all.
However, it became apparent the next morning that he had never made it that far.
There had been a shriek from the kitchen, attracting the attention of everyone waiting for breakfast.
The sight was clean, but still horrifying to witness.
The janitor himself was sat against some boxes of frozen meat, almost completely frozen through.. The freezing made it clear that he had been thoroughly soaked before being locked in there, and the scratches on the door suggested he tried his best to escape while he could.. But the soaking wet rain with the icy freezer had taken him before he could even make a dent in the door. Even in death, he looked exhausted, seemingly like he had fought until he couldn't any longer, and looking at those bloody fingers showed he faught hard.
While his eyes stayed open, they were dull, expression defeated and sad. He knew he was going to die. And in the end all he could do was wait as the cold overtook him inch by painful inch.
Ennie Gervacio was dead.
It had been the breeder himself that had told Ennie of the approaching storm, seeing the behaviors of the surrounding animals shift as they prepared for the chilly onslaught of rain, something that couldn't have come at a worse time. Gundham would have much preferred to accompany Ennie to his cabin for the night to help him through it, but he knew very well that he would be unable to do so, as one of the cows at the ranch was expecting a calf at any time now, and he couldn't simply leave her to it on her own. The breeder had been explaining to Ennie earlier that same day how much of an issue it could be, cows notorious for having difficulties with an unassisted birth, not to mention the chill of the rain would only add to the difficulty.
Trying to find a compromise where there was really none to be had, Ennie had insisted he would be fine without Gundham for the night, something they both knew to be a lie, though Gundham had still lent the janitor his scarf with the excuse that it was better he take it, lest it get ruined while he was assisting the cow.
