And here we go, the horrible, messy sketches of my beloved bug. God Burrower is so goddamn cute. Like a golden retriever had the body of an insecticon.

And since my handwriting is horrible, here’s what the notes say:

retractable claws (for safe digging! He has a secondary pair of arms with actual fingers for more delicate work as well, not pictured here because I don’t have time to draw it)

Small holes/catch-alls for collecting mineral and soil samples while he digs! He can also use these to collect and consume/refuel without having to stop digging, which means there’s very little reason for him to stop making underground tunnels.

flexible spines that dot the outside of his arms, these are for defense when he is being threatened, and they double as extra sensors for when he’s wandering around in the dark. Maybe don’t make him mad enough to take a swing at you, those spines are very capable of puncturing even heavy grade armor.

Fun fact about Burrower: since he used to spend a good 90% of his life underground, his vision is almost nonexistent! He actually gets around using that huge load of antenna on his head, which poke out of his shell even when he’s curled up to sleep or roll around. He navigates around mostly by “feeling” vibrations in the ground and air, by echo location (he chirps like a cat), and by scent! To him, someone’s appearance might as well be what they smell like.
