I have to say that I really enjoyed having participated in such a noble action as @fandomtrumpshate is.

These are the two gifts I gave to my dear @totallysilvergirl and @chriscalledmesweetie, who were very generous in their bid for the FTH 2024 auction:

And now... yes, I'm thinking about what I'll be offering at next year's auction! (bc of course I'll be participating :D)

This year (I have to say) I've developed A LOT in GIFsets making, it was a pending debt I had with myself. I learned a lot making them for @giftober and with those dedicated tutorials posted here. And I also I create my first fanvid! Which I'm very proud of myself bc it's something I also wanted to explore and I felt very comfortable doing it.

Well then, I need you to help me decide!...

A little clip of a relatively obscure Tchaikovsky piece for solo piano. This is the first movement of the piano suite titled: Souvenir de Hapsal, Op. 2. The movement is titled: Ruines d’un château (which translates directly as “ruins of a castle”). This is my performance from December 2022.

Tchaikovsky composed this piece in 1867 when he was still relatively young, about 27 years old. For reference, Tchaikovsky passed away in 1893. The piece was inspired by his stay in the region of Hapsal, which is now present day Estonia.

The piece is written in ternary form (ABA form). The A section, some of which is shown above, seems to depict this abandoned castle in its current, derelict state. The music is reflective of a funeral march. Also, the way the notes fit in your hand, it makes your right hand feel like a spider crawling slowly in a web somewhere inside the castle.

It’s a beautiful and haunting work and a clear example of how Tchaikovsky is able to evoke strong images and feelings within his melodies. It probably helps that he was one sad homosexual. And so am I. 🖤 Much love to our boy, Pytor, during this pride month.

this piece is so spare and EMPTY feeling in comparison to rach's other pieces which leave little to negative space. its motif of double-dotted rhythms used in traditional steppe music contrast with the quietly booming chords that reflect the bells of rachmaninov's homeland, ultimately merging and giving way to one another, cascading into a sound somewhere between the wind over the fields and the fall of night.

this piece is the sound of the loss of a world; the loss of a self-- it is mourning without a false hope or pretense of looking ahead to dawn.

but, there is beauty in memory and in recollection, so long as one doesn't become morose with nostalgia. that's something i adore about rachmaninov's work-- as emotional and strained as it is, it doesn't get lost in itself-- it is restrained, disciplined, and honest.

I finally got around to posting this from the fall 2016... My lovely surrogate accompanist Ivan (my usual accompanist was unavailable) and I performing Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte. 

In light of me getting a new, big girl English horn soon, I figured now would be a good time to post a video of me playing on the school Fox 555 (all resin) so we can compare the difference! 

My next video won’t have piano behind it since I’ve since graduated, but hopefully I’ll get a good quality video from my phone or something...

(Disclaimer! This was after my senior recital [and after a couple weeks of ignoring the poor horn] and after three or four takes, so sorry for the flubs! I know for sure I missed one of the low C#s... partly horn, partly me...)

I think this horn served me quite well for the four years I had it and I am so grateful for the privilege of playing it! Buff state only has one English horn, and I got it!
