The "terrifying oboe bit in Shostakovich 5"? (Not an oboist.)
A short, haunting, gorgeous solo that you have to play cold, out of fucking NOWHERE, with barely anything underneath you. Absolutely terrifying.
I have not had the privilege to perform it, but I did play it for legendary American oboist, John Mack, back at one of his master classes when I was 16, and he was so impressed, he made me play it immediately again, and was at a loss for words (unbelievable, if you knew the man) -- no critique, just applause.
