Rook as a character is so fundamentally useless to me and I am almost envious of whoever manages to give them depth and character beyond the nice guy™ player avatar treatment they got.
Rook is, to me, only justified in one category:
Giving the player access to new romances.
And to me, Veilguard's romances just ain't it.
Everything storywise would be better with the Inquisitors as the Player character. Literally.
Of course the setup would have to be different, but I dare say that most of us don't see Varric traipsing about Thedas to have a scuffle with Solas instead of doing his job as Vicomte of Kirkwall and making bank with his stories.
And Rook isn't even an empty slate to build upon either.
You pick their background - which hardly matters because how dare you try to roleplay - and that's it. You don't get to play a character. You get to watch them be nice and helpful.
And a doormat in certain cases.
And the romances? The one thing Rook is good for?
All 7 veilguard romances together add up to a little more than two hours. For comparison, Dorian's romance alone is around one hour twenty of video content. That doesn't justify a new protagonist to me.
Rook doesn't even register as a protagonist for me, because... I see them and think "My Inquisitor would do so much better... Even with one arm missing..."
But then again... Veilguard heavily relies on Rook being everyone's worry dump without anyone caring enough about them to actually ask how they are doing, because otherwise the "big twist" doesn't work. As if most of us didn't know he's dead the moment Bianca got destroyed.
This game is so fucking predictable if you have a modicum of pattern recognition.
Anyway: Romances.
The only thing Rook is good for. And to me, they lack. Substance. Content. Interest. Sense, in some cases.
So, no. Not worth it. Sorry, Rookie. To me, you don't count.
Thank you for the tag @nc-legend! This was a trip to remember all these things haha.
I tend to stick to 1 or 2 games for like, entire decades at a time lolol but since I'm old it still worked out!
Spiels below, I rant for paragraphs omg, if I tag you no obligation to read any of this. It's literally just a rant of everything and me talking into the void, seriously don't subject yourself to it lmao:
First idk why original Pokemon Red wasn't there (unless I'm blind??) but that one deserves a special shoutout as it was the beginning point of many things for me. I was OBSESSED. Never had so much joy as when those originals came out. For a split moment in time everyone was happy and liked it together it seemed, even all those shitty fucker kids who didn't like nerdy stuff. Ah, that faded after a few years. But through that joy the game also opened the door for the first major bullying arc of my life, so I hold it in fond regard for my lore building and backstory. Thanks, fuckstains, look at what you created. ADMIRE IT. *mentally unstable but fine* I also bet those same freaks are the ones who gave af about Pokemon Go all those years later, literal hypocrites, but I digress.
Elder Scrolls Online held me in a chokehold and toxic relationship with it for 10 years spanning 2 platforms starting on xbox and moving to pc. Glad to finally have gotten away from it but I cannot deny how much fun I had when I played it and the wonderful friends I made throughout all those years. The good times outweigh the bad. Even now I have friends who try to get me to come back but there's no way in ever-loving fuck that I will. Which annoys me because sometimes I do miss it. I miss my Godslayer title and the mount, it was my favorite fucking thing in the ENTIRE GAME UGH. I miss shooting the shit with my friends too, but I still keep in touch via discord. Used to laugh so much though, there's nothing like being in an xbox party chat with a bunch of your bozos lol. But it's best to not touch that game anymore. As I was mainly a pvper, you know how we get. And that already rather small community got wayyyy too crackheaded for me to deal with (cyberstalking, doxxing and mass reporting lol whackos). The community of the game as a whole became an echochamber amongst other things, which is another reason why I finally broke away. BUT, honorable mention goes to Skyrim because it allowed me to come up with so many in depth characters that all lived in my head. It was great for my creativity with a killer soundtrack.
Saints Row 2022 is the precursor to my obsession with Cyberpunk. As I always say to myself whilst reminiscing - SR was the funny, derpy cousin next to the very deep and heavy adult-themed Cyberpunk to me. I absolutely loved playing SR. I still have the itch to go back because I have unfinished biz! I don't think I got all of my achievements yet on pc. I originally played it on xbox but bought it for pc because it's one of those few games that I would willingly repurchase. Santo Ileso is where the beginnings of my Pewpsie actually come from! - my boss and her cotton candy hair and cute outfits. AHHH! One of my favorite things to do in that game was just literally drive around with the radio blasting lolol so.... literally me in Cyberpunk only with way more customizable shit on my cars.
SWTOR - must I even say it? I took a major break from ESO before I officially STOPPED playing it fr fr, and obviously went to another mmo in that in-between downtime lol When I got a pc I could finally play this and I was so ready! I have always loved Star Wars. Any chance I can be a Sith, Zabrak, Togruta or Twi'lek you know I'm there. If only we could have gone to Dathomir in that game *le sigh* Can we legit romance Khem Val yet? V'ashka Tei (my sith togruta) would make an appearance if we can lmao she was down for that juicy monster any day of the week. I know he had something massive under that loincloth, baby!
Mass Effect is one of the first games I bought when I got my pc. I LOVE MASS EFFECT SO FUCKING MUCH. My god, it is also one of the only games I've played without controller on my pc. Between this and SWTOR I loved how when I'd sit here and start traversing through space I really felt like I was because of my rig, setup and lack of lighting lmao The stories are just so good, the characters are fucking fantastic. Just such wondrous games overall. I do not talk about Andromeda because if there ain't no Garrus then there is nothing to discuss lulz
Super Mario 64 is the very first console game I ever got. The Christmas N64 came out is when I got it and my fuck, it opened the already ajar door. Even my mom would play it to help me get stars. She got really into it too 🤣 good memories. And there is still nothing that compares to how epic the final Bowser theme song was to a little kid finally getting to that level. That song is the epitome of gaming for me.
Harvest Moon 64 is another N64 staple that I LOVED SOOOOO much. The passage of time and seasons, the calm quiet nature of it. The cute way it felt like I had a whole little life in that game. In a whole little pleasant world. The music, the events and festivals, the first game I ever played where I could woo people with gifts? It is literally one of my favorite games ever and it means so much to me. When my grandma was dying in the hospital I opted to play HM: Magical Melody instead of going to see her that last day because I had already said my goodbyes the day before and simply could not go back there. That game was something that helped me to stay as calm as one could be given the circumstances. The entire franchise meant the world to me until they sold the rights to it or whatever and fucked it all up. I was always happy to play a Harvest Moon game - but none could ever ever everrrr compare to 64. My life was just so good back then and I miss it.
Golden Sun was my diamond in the rough. I saw it in Nintendo Power and decided to try it on a whim. The Sol Sanctum song still lives rent free in my head even now. Constant summer days I'd lay on my bed and just rot playing that game until my body hurt from lounging too much lmao The art style was exactly what I wanted to draw like. The game was fun af. And it was just such a pleasant joy to me. I loved the Djinn and literally everything about that game. The bad guys, the art style, the story. EVERYTHING OMG. I will never forget Golden Sun! Only the first one though, I liked that one the best.
Lastly, I listed Kirby's Star Stacker. It was essentially a Tetris kind of game. But more importantly it was the very first videogame I ever personally owned. I got the original GameBoy (they didn't have color yet lol oldddd) and Kirby's Star Stacker as a gift for Communion. Thanks, Jesus. I was never so excited in all of my life than to have my own gaming system. This single thought someone in my family had to gift me this is a quintessential moment that changed my whole trajectory in life, I assume. I would never be who I am today without videogames.
Last honorable mention would go to the original Sims. My neighbor friend got it first and we had SO much fun playing it. I looked forward to going over and playing it every day, and then when I got a computer I was able to get it too. This was such a vital moment since it not only signified coming into a new era of gaming, but also witnessing the slow death of us wanting to actually play outside and do things lol So, good and bad.
Here is the link to make your own list.
Most people I know have been tagged already so it is at this point I get nervous and go one of two routes. Tag nobody and feel douchey, or tag people I don't normally tag and feel awkward anyway lolol LETS DO THE AWKWARD OPTION AND WORRY LATER. If you don't game, forgive me! If you've answered already, sorry! And no pressure or obligation to respond anyways.
Hieee! What are your top five teen wolf headcanons in general?
Liam has a stepsister a little bit younger than him. Since Liam has a stepdad and we don’t exactly get info from his bio-dad but it seems like Dr. Geyer has been in his life for a long time, it’s completely believable that Liam’s mom got pregnant a second time and she’s biracial.
Stiles has training sessions with Allison and Kira cuz he’s obsessed with their weapons. Kira didn’t mind helping, but he basically had to beg Allison to let him touch her crossbows cuz he’s all clumsy and a butterfinger.
Malia found her love for photography in France. She doesn’t go to any fancy college like her friends, and she’s okay with it; she just wants a life beyond Beacon Hills’s insanity. Photography is a good way for her to express herself and it’s also a way of earning money without any annoying boss on her shoulders.
Tracy is obsessed with horror/scary-everything. (Movies, songs, books, etc.) She’s an artist, by the various sketches in her room, so besides consuming content, she also draws it. It’s how she translates her night terrors. It’s also why she’s so obsessed with dark things, it’s all she knows and what explains what she is and how she feels, so she fears and craves these horror things at the same time.
Theo has asthmatic bronchitis. He spent nights and early mornings in hospitals with Tara always keeping him company. He hated being alone at night, especially since he was being haunted by The Dread Doctors, sick and not knowing if he was actually seeing them or if it was just a bad dream. Either way, Theo hated it. He could barely breathe or just be like the other kids, his asthma attacks were strong and overwhelming and were affecting his heart. Through that, and the kid factor, it got easy enough for The Dread Doctors to get into Theo’s head and make him believe he was gonna be a better version of himself if he had his sister’s heart. (I do believe he let her die but was not THE ONE who directly killed her. It’s still a thing that Theo is responsible for either way, but considering how The Dread Doctors are, I believe they caused the direct harm.)
Explaing why people like TV HEADS from V-Tuber ETA, including herself
(All lines are translated by me)
Starting from her twt post:
DANG~ THEY ALL LOOK SO HANDSOME
"We potentially have a liking for object head characters but we haven't yet met that fate up til now.
That's why this is NOT out-of-the blue thing!
Originally, potentially I had a liking for TV!
and that just got ignited this time!"
SO REAL
TV's appearance is really important to me.
CRT TV is, well, NOT like Samsung HD monitor-like clean-cut design but it's slightly hollow and inside, you have that convex & round lens, and there's a lever that could change the channel right next to it?
Seeing how they designed all that is crucial to make decision about its appearance!
If it fits right, you feel that TV looks real classy and handsome.
If you are someone who looks at celebrities as less than human beings, I don't want to talk to you. Even if you are someone who frames celebrities as a product, the moment that stops being of their own free will, it stops being what they're selling and it becomes treating a real human being like an object. Treating people like people isn't putting them on a pedestal it's just basic human decency. I do not fuck with the whole "they chose fame over being a person". Like, no they didn't, YOU have it in your head that having the supposed privilege of doing something that you love for a living (most of the time that isn't even the case) is an invitation to completely violate someone's personhood and experience as a human just because you are maladjusted and can't comprehend that people just simply exist in the world. No person deserves to be perceived as an object that solely exists for other people, that shit fucks with you. Celebrity culture is severely out of hand, and I'm so sick of seeing the argument of "they asked for it" in any context. Please examine the way you perceive celebs because, obviously, there is a bigger issue overall with the situation than just this but it's a compounded issue and the first thing we can do is realizing that EVERYONE is owed their humanity, further judgment is reserved for after that happens.
Levi's eye color must be a mixture of navy blue and dark blue. From a distance it looks black but if you look very close or in the sunlight you can catch the darkest colors of blue. His eye color is neither gray nor black or light blue.
Sample references:
I've been researching natural eye colors and I think I can say that I just learned that the darkest dark blue is natural lol.
I want to read a Lord of the Rings length novel that takes place in Calorum complete with invented languages and full pages of the history of the Bulbian church
