I don't know how relatable this post will be, but I dislike rounded corners in modern UI.

It wasn't always this way. Windows XP through 7 use rounded corners extensively, and I think they still look nice. But things have changed.

Here is a quote I found online at Designmodo that sums up industry design philosophy on the element:

As children, we were trained to stay away from knives and sharp objects because they can hurt us... Rounded corners evoke warmth and trust.

In the past I would have agreed. But over the years, I've grown to associate rounded corners, more and more, with manipulation, deceit, and control.

I don't think that rounded rectangles are a CIA conspiracy or w/e. But I do think that years of use by companies that don't trust their users—famously Apple—now mean "if a company has chosen its whole branding to say 'trust me', you probably shouldn't."

To me, sharp corners in 2025 mean one of two things about software: professional and polished, or just purely functional without care for aesthetics. Neither of those is a problem.

Whereas rounded corners mean software that is bubble-wrapped and will lie to you—spitting out errors like "whoopsie! the blorple dorple machine broke" instead of telling a knowledgeable user what's wrong.

I got the latest art prints I ordered yesterday and so I’ve reorganized the PC side of my office and I just had to share!!

Above my whiteboard are my Displate posters from the official Arcane store! Actually just remounted these with Velcro command strips because the Displate adhesive magnets failed me and I had two of these fall 😅 the middle poster is Cyberpunk, female V, for those unfamiliar!

next is my newest Shadowheart poster, this one was bought at a convention and gifted to me from my good friend @canthandledecisions 💜

and next, I’ve posted these before but I just framed them and moved where they were mounted, these beautiful CaitVi pieces by @mimi-maru and another one by them of Pit Fighter Vi 😍

As a bonus, here are close ups of all the YouTooz figures I’ve been collecting 🤣 my lovely spouse actually preordered all of these for me as a Christmas present and they’ve been arriving slowly but steadily! And all of them are here now!

Soooo anyway this little spot is my paradise 😌 I’ve already shared what the other half looks like, I have such a lovely gay office lol! Next up, need to figure out how to display my Pops in such a way that my cat cannot knock them off my shelf over and over! 🤣
