Summary: Miranda is disgruntled about the way an office event plays out, but her bad mood doesn't stay for long.
Written for a Sunday Prompt event @guardianrock organized, thanks for that Cancan! <3 it was fun! I wrote it in one go just now and without beta reader, all mistakes are my own.
Summary: After Paris, Andy tried to be the best assistant ever to make up for almost leaving Miranda, and Miranda began to act almost human around her - though, of course, still nothing but professional Well, that is until Miranda orders her to decorate the perfect Christmas tree...

Hi Mari! Anything for you :D I went with Emily finding out, and only realised afterwards that that makes it a bit AU from The Mystery Stranger bc there, I wrote her having already gotten promoted elsewhere... well, maybe I'll fix it up somehow for ao3, but for now, here goes!

Now that they are officially girlfriends (while they have yet to make a statement to the press or really talk to anyone but their closest friends about the development, both women have decided early on in their relationship that they would not be hiding), Andy comes to visit Miranda at the office for lunch when Miranda texts her that she will have to eat while working because 'the accessories department has been predictably mediocre in their work - I would have fired them all if only there were more competent people available to fill the ranks'.
She gets in because Miranda let security know to let her pass, steps out of the elevator on Runway's floor in a chipper mood with the takeout bag in hand - and is immediately ambushed by a redhead that, from Miranda and Nigel's descriptions of her former coworkers, has to be Emily.
"Andy?! What the fuck? You can't be here, she will skin you alive, and then me as well because I'll be the next person she sees and also it'll be my fault for letting you through! Don't you remember how things ended when you left?"
Andy actually laughs at that. "I don't, actually! I lost pretty much my entire memory a while ago. But it's fine, don't worry - ah, hi Miranda!" Miranda greets her with a hug and a gentle kiss, and they disappear in her office, leaving a gaping Emily behind.

Later, Emily stays in front of Miranda's desk after their run-through meeting.
"Miranda - and I'm sorry to have to say this, and I do hope that you won't blacklist me but I just can't let this go unmentioned! What you are doing - and I don't get why you are doing it in the first place-"
"Emily - you are rambling almost as badly as my Andréa is prone to. Will you get to the point before I have to send security to escort you to the hospital?"
Miranda's tone is still scathing, but she is actually more amused than anything. Andréa's visit has left her in a good mood that might even last the entire day if no outright catastrophes happen.
"Yes! Andy! What the hell? She loses her memory, and you, what, decide now's the perfect time to take advantage of her?!"
Miranda's eyes narrow. She breathes in through her nose, only staying somewhat calm because she knows Andréa would like to also reconnect with Emily, and because...
"Know that the only reason you are still in this building is your genuine concern for my Andréa."
Emily squeaks. "...what?"
"I did not 'take advantage' of Andréa, we stayed in contact after she quit, I got concerned when she stopped seeing me, she found me again despite her memory loss, and we reconnected. Does this answer your... question?"
Emily seems to know very well that while she never actually asked any question in her accusing Miranda of corrupting Andy, she should still take the olive branch for what it is and get the hell out.
"Yes, Miranda."
Before she can leave the office, however, Miranda's words in a somewhat contemplative tone reach her.
"...so, you do have a spine."
"Excuse me?!" Emily squeaks and whirls around.
"You are capable to stand up for others, even to your direct superiors. Perhaps I should consider you for a promotion in a leading role, after all..." Miranda taps her chin with her reading glasses once before turning back to her work. "That's all."
Now, Emily does get the hell out and goes to the art department to tell Serena: "You won't believe what just happened!"
