Vox's gender stays the exact same whether a girl or a guy. And that's wanting swappable parts and the freedom to mix and match whatever makes him happiest in any given situation. ALSO. Xenia. Since my hc name for Vox was Alexander, or Xander/Xan for short. I was trying to find a girl name that still hit right for me. And I decided on Xenia. Her full name would be Alexandria, but she started going by Xan or Xenia as a self rebrand. Alex kinda murdered a bunch of people one time. Xander/Xenia is super cool tho. Definitely hasn't done anything bad ever. Perfect cinnamon roll baby boy and girl.

I tend to have a "point" that I want to get to with some fic. And the point of this one was gonna be Alastor's relationship with gender and sexual dynamics. Idk if anyone notices lmao, but the way Alastor flirts with girls vs boys is DRASTICALLY different. He's very sweet on girls. He's gentler and more willing to accommodate. But he tends to be a brat around men. He's defensive and kinda weird about open affection towards men and assumes they'll do all the work to pursue him instead.

And specifically how Alastor would engage with Vox and his gender. I actually ended up fairly in line with canon with my version of Vox lmao. But he's very sensitive and a huge crybaby. He's soft and creative and adores his pets and family. He's arguably more feminine, and he pushes it down and overcompensates. And I think there's a part of Alastor that thinks that its distasteful for a man to act like that. Or maybe he's resentful of Vox's ability to be in touch with his emotions and heart. In my hc backstory, Vox is treated fucking terribly. He doesn't get to live with Alastor, instead he's stuck in a basement underneath the Radio Tower. He isn't given any special treatment and is often ignored when he needs help.

BUT if Vox was a girl...that would genuinely change everything about how Alastor interacts with her. If Vox is a girl, then all of her crying is expected. Her mood swings, her pain, her need for affection and support. All perfectly normal and in line with the gender reality that Alastor lives in. He can dote on her because that's what he's meant to do in these situations. She gets to live in the house, because who could POSSIBLY make a dainty WOMAN go live in a sewer. GASP....the horrors.

You don't dote on men. You don't hold men when they cry. You tell them to shut the fuck up and stop acting like a pussy.

Alastor is very sexist and misogynistic. He's firm and stuck in his ways and struggles to ever break out of those patterns. I think at least a solid 40% of why he'll never openly come out as a trans woman (which he is) is literally because he likes the patriarchy and wants to benefit from it.

And to an extent, this applies to Vox too. Its easier for their relationship to work if she's a she, because Vox is just following the 50s housewife process that she knows by heart. She knows what her place is meant to be with a man and she'd be comfortable engaging with that with more sincerity. But if Vox is a man, now it's queer. Now this relationship is abnormal and a treat. Its harder to open his heart up and take that risk because of homophobia and the fact that Alastor is an asshole and its real hard to tell when he likes someone back. He can't just go on dates or explore this relationship like she can. And Alastor's never going to meet him half way and love him like he loves her.
