Last week I had the pleasure of visiting @persephonebooks in London for the first time. I have seen these books over the years on Instagram but I didn’t really know anything about them. So this is what I learned... Persephone Books is first and foremost a publisher which was founded in 1999 by Nicola Beauman. She chose the name Persephone as a symbol of female creativity (the daughter of Zeus, AKA the beautiful goddess of spring). The company publishes titles that are out-of-print, with the majority being novels written by women. The books are mainly sold by post via subscription. However, if in London, I encourage you to visit their lovely shop where you can swoon over every title and shop until your heart’s content. The books all have the same elegant grey cover. Beauman has been quoted as saying, "I like grey, and I also had this vision of a woman who comes home tired from work, and there is a book waiting for her, and it doesn't matter what it looks like because she knows she will enjoy it". Each book does have its own uniquely coloured end paper and comes with a matching bookmark - this I really love! Suffice it to say that I have a serious crush on Persephone Books! Do you own any of their editions? 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 #persephonebooks #persephoneclassics #thisismybookstore #beautifulbookshops #bookstorevibes #londonUK #literarture #bookstagramlife #indiebookstore #stacksofbooks #bookshelves #bookstore #bookshop #bookshopping #booksonbooksonbooks #bookgram #met_createchange #bibliophile #booksoftheday #mybookbath 📖🛁 (at Persephone Books)
