SHE’S SO UNUSUAL, no. 20. Dusty Springfield, Dusty. Another album I wish they’d recorded or mastered better or whatever it is—it’s so tinny and squished up. I thought I had my settings on my receiver screwed up or something. I gather it’s one of those chop-and-reassemble-type albums they used to do to British artists to make U.S. lps. The performances sound awesome. Like the next album a person should put on the turntable ought to be Adele or something. I tried to focus on the performances. It ends with the familiar “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself” by Bacharach/David, which sounds okay, but there’s a lot of other great songs. Really, I think the one that worked best might have been the kind of silly “My Coloring Book” because they weren’t trying to out-Phil-Spector Phil Spector with layers and layers and layers of horns and strings and everything—it was the simplest production, and it was kinda mesmerizing. #dusty #dustyspringfield #bachrachdavid #mycoloringbook (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIHj9yUgUex/?igshid=113f78y3phmee
