Hey lovely! ❤️ thank you so much for this cute message and sweet request! I hope you enjoy it 🥰
B26 “It’s not morning yet.”
At first it’s unclear what’s woken Michael up. All that his fuzzy brain knows is that it’s still dark. Calum’s steady breathing and still form next to him, suggests that his husband is still fast asleep.
In the midst of his confusion, Michael concludes that he must have had a bad dream or something and woke himself up. He snuggles back down into his pillows, draping an arm over Calum’s flat stomach to keep as close to him as possible.
Just as sleep begins to cloud Michael’s mind again, a quiet little giggle followed closely by another, alerts him to the presence of his mischievous little twins.
“Go back to bed, cheeky monkeys.” He groans tiredly. “It’s not morning yet.”
The twins giggle again as they scramble up onto the bed, flicking in the bedside lamp and pulling the duvet off of Michael en-route. “Back to bed...” he repeats, unable to muster the energy to properly tell them off.
“We’re not tired, daddy!” Tama whines, yanking Michael’s arm until the exhausted father rolls into his back.
Michael forces his eyes open. Even after four years, it’s surprising how much the remarkable physical similarity between his son and his husband grows with every passing day. Tama’s deep brown eyes sparkle in the dim lamplight as he pouts down at his dad. “We wanna play...”
“Yeah, we want to play with the kittens!” Bonnie frowns, her cute little face appearing next to her brother’s. Just like Tama, she looks so much like Calum. “We miss them!”
Michael glances over at the clock on his bedside table and sighs exasperatedly. “It’s not even six am yet.” He whispers, “the kittens are still sleeping, just like you should be.”
Bonnie rolls her pretty brown eyes, reminding Michael so much of Calum whenever he’s annoyed, “they’re not asleep!” She announces, her voice suddenly sounding very loud in the otherwise silent room. “I heard their little jingly bells!”
A soft chuckle from beside Michael let’s him know his attempt to keep the twins quiet enough not to wake Calum, had been unsuccessful.
“Nice try, babe.” The younger man says, a smirk evident in his thick, sleepy voice. “When will you realise that our four-year-olds can already outsmart you?”
Michael huffs indignantly. Attempting to pull the duvet back up around his shoulders. The cover remains stubbornly where it is, pooled around his waist, held back by four determined little hands.
“We’re awake like the kittens, daddy!” Tama reiterates, “we wanna play!”
Before Michael can tell the twins to go back to bed for a third time, Calum chuckles softly, reaching out to take one hand of each of the twins. “Daddy already told you that it’s not morning yet, you little rascals!” He mutters, “Why don’t the two of you hop in here with your old dads for a snooze and then you can play with the kittens before breakfast, yeah?”
Michael grumbles, not particularly fond of the idea of his last hour of sleep being disturbed by tiny elbows and knees jabbing into him.
“But what if the kittens are lonely, daddy?” Tama asks, his brown eyes wide with concern.
“Would it make you feel better if we went and checked on them?” Calum asks, obviously willing to do anything for an extra hour or so of sleep.
The twins nod enthusiastically before scrambling off the bed. They scurry across the room to wait for Calum by the open door. Despite their annoying habit of waking up far too early for Michael’s liking, he can’t help but smile at cute they look - Tama in his little jungle print pyjamas with his unruly curly black hair and Bonnie in her space themed pyjamas with her neatly plaited hair. They take each other’s hand as they wait patiently, looking, every inch like the little angels they pretend to be.
“I’ll try and get them back to bed after we’ve checked on the cats.” Calum yawns, “you go back to sleep, baby.”
Michael smiles. “You’re the best husband in the whole world.” He mutters snuggling back into his covers as Calum gets out of bed and switches off the lamp.
As his family disappears into the hallway Michael drifts back to sleep almost immediately, a faint smile curving his lips.
It’s after 7.30am when Michael opens his eyes again and he feels slightly guilty when he realises that Calum isn’t beside him. It’s highly likely that their little twins have kept him up since their little escapade earlier on.
Summoning every ounce of energy he can muster, Michael climbs out of bed, wrapping his arms around himself to protect his bare arms from the chill.
Once he reaches the top of the stairs, Michael gets a little suspicious when he can’t hear any noise at all. Bonnie and Tama usually make a lot of noise when they’re playing and their new kittens seem to like trying to compete with their own tiny yowling.
He treads quickly but quietly down the stairs, eager to see why his house his silent.
The sight that greets Michael in the living room makes his heart fill with so much love that he can barely contain it. His husband, children and pets are all fast asleep on the sofa. Calum is stretched out in the centre seat, a twin cuddled into either side of him and two fluffy kittens curled up on his lap. Michael’s smile is easily one of the biggest that has ever graced his face as he looks fondly at his little family, feeling like the luckiest man in the whole world.
