Summary: Kurt's 28th birthday starts out exactly as he planned — and even better. That is, until an unexpected storm brings a crazy man into his life, who seems to be much harder to get rid of than he expected.

“Oh my God, you will not believe the idiocy I have been subjected to today,” Kurt fumes, the second he steps through the door.
“Oh?” Blaine abandons his vegetable chopping to move towards his husband instead, aiming a kiss at his cheek that Kurt distractedly turns his face into out of habit.
“I don’t why I thought becoming a creative director of photo shoots would actually mean people listen to me,” Kurt rages. “I mean God forbid, anyone actually tries to understand my vision.” He rips his coat off in a dramatic flair and thrusts it onto the hook. “I put my heart into these concepts.”
“I know you do,” Blaine murmurs. Not that Kurt feels positioned to listen to anything right now. He’s clearly in full flow. Blaine leans back against the counter, content to watch as Kurt moves naturally into an agitated pace across the room.
“And the new guy, oh my God. He has the creativity of a teaspoon. Not to get too Miranda Priestly about this but florals in spring?” Kurt throws his hands up in exasperation and Blaine nods emphatically to show he’s listening even though he’s mostly just distracted by how especially gorgeous his husband looks today. Kurt is dressed in a shirt and tie with a suit jacket that is perfectly tailored to his body and shows off his broad shoulders and narrow waist. Blaine has never been able to resist Kurt in formal wear. He wants to tug that tie away from his throat so he can put his mouth there instead. Thank God for important work meetings that make Kurt want to dress up.
“Like why not just pair that with pastels and be done with it. Fucking spring florals, what am I even paying this guy for?” Kurt asks but it’s clearly rhetorical because he just keeps on going. “I can’t even get into what I would like to do because it involves bird feathers and people clearly aren’t ready for that conversation.”
Blaine bites his lip against a smile. He knows Kurt is frustrated, but he’s just so lovely like this. Flushed and slightly wild, all big gestures and mussed up hair. He wants to mess it up further. Sink his hands into it and push Kurt to his knees.
“So instead I came to them with the neon concept. You know how we spoke about neons.”
“Due a comeback,” Blaine chirps obediently.
“Exactly. So I came at them with the neons but it’s like everyone is determined to live in a sad, grey, closed off little world. What exactly is people’s problem with orange? And yellow for God’s sake? What did yellow ever do to anyone?” Kurt reaches up to loosen his tie and undo his top buttons and now looks so perfectly dishevelled that Blaine can’t follow his ranting any longer. He swallows. His eyes are glued to the way Kurt’s lips are moving. The way Kurt’s muscles move under the tight fabric. That small sliver of skin he’s exposed at his collarbone.
He zones out for long enough that Kurt pauses in his pacing, moving to stand in front of Blaine with his arms crossed. “Are you even listening? Because I don’t think you seem outraged enough about mph-”
Blaine can’t hold himself back any more. Not with Kurt so beautiful and animated and now close enough to touch. He hooks his fingers through Kurt’s belt loops and pulls him close, crashing their mouths together. Kurt staggers but Blaine steadies him and Kurt almost instantly relaxes, arms wrapping around Blaine’s back and shoulders. His mouth turns warm and willing under Blaine’s in a heartbeat and Blaine can’t stop the small, desperate noise that escapes him.
He spins them, pressing Kurt up against the counter he was leaning against. He doesn’t have the patience for slow build up. His fingers go to Kurt’s button, undoing it and immediately sliding the jacket down Kurt’s shoulders. His mouth opens in invitation and Kurt takes it without pause, his tongue slick and hot and perfect. Kurt helps detangle himself from the jacket and Blaine’s hands go immediately to his waist, pressing in, feeling the shape of him through his shirt before yanking it out of his waistband.
“Mm,” Kurt hums happily, leaning back to snatch a breath. “I'm all in favour of wherever this is going but, be honest. Did you kiss me just to stop me busting you for not listening?”
“Kurt, please. That is offensive,” Blaine jokes, smiling at Kurt’s soft huff of exasperation. “I kissed you because watching you get impassioned about anything, even the stupidity of other people is so insanely sexy that I just can’t help-”
This time it’s Blaine that gets silenced with a kiss. From the way Kurt smiles against his mouth, he thinks it was probably deliberate.
I'm so sorry about the last one, but I'm curious to see how you fix it :)
thank you so much for the ask! unfortunately, i lost the original prompt a bit in writing this. I wanted to leave the dynamic pretty open-ended so sorry if it’s a little off. hope you enjoy regardless!!

Kurt has decided that he is going to kill Rachel Berry.
He’s never been one to consider murder as an option before, but it does feel appropriate that Rachel should be his first.
“Are you serious, Rachel?” Kurt asks in exasperation. He had agreed to babysit his nephews so that his step-brother and his wife could go on a date night. However, he should have figured that Rachel always had ulterior motives.
“It’ll be fine, Kurt! Your nephew really wanted to spend time with his Uncle Kurt and Uncle Blaine. Just this once, I promise!” Uncle Blaine? Since when did Blaine get upgraded to uncle? Before Kurt had a chance to argue, Rachel prattled on. “Make sure Chester gets his bath and is in bed by 8:30. Thanks, babe, you’re the best!” She kissed Kurt on the cheek before quickly heading towards the door. “C’mon, Finn!”
Finn followed behind Rachel silently, but not without directing an apologetic look towards Kurt. God, Finn, you pushover.
Once the couple was out the door, Kurt stared at the door, hoping to burn a hole in the wood through sheer agitation alone.
“So, are you just gonna stand there and look pissy or are you gonna help me babysit?”
And there was Blaine. He was sitting on the couch through the entirety of Kurt’s interaction with Rachel, but Kurt had been resolutely not looking at him.
“This is a bad idea.”
“Sure is,” Blaine agreed, and even that irritated Kurt. Finally looking over towards Blaine, Kurt saw his ex-boyfriend holding his nephew in his arms. Kurt heaved a sigh and eventually sat down next to Blaine on the couch, careful to leave an acceptable amount of distance between the two of them.
“Two people aren’t needed to watch one kid.”
“Then leave,” Blaine stated evenly. This took Kurt by surprise by how easily Blaine said that to him. “You can either do that or get over yourself for one night.”
Though Kurt appeared he wanted to argue, he simply shook his head dismissively. He didn’t want to deal with this, but at the very least, he could tell that Blaine didn’t want to either. But it was just one night. He could do this. Sure, he and Blaine aren’t on the best of terms, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t handle one night with him. Even if the only reason they’re spending any amount of time together is because of Rachel and her incessant scheming.
The evening went on about as Kurt anticipated that it may: casual bickering between the two paired with taking care of his nephew. Bathtime was relatively painless, aside from the fact that Blaine was insistent on playing in the water with Chester, therefore getting water everywhere that Kurt had no doubt he would have to be the one to clean up.
Eventually, once Chester was put down for bed, Kurt and Blaine sat down in the silent living room, on opposite ends of the couch once more. Despite his nephew being an incredibly well-behaved kid, Kurt cannot imagine taking care of a child every single day. He’s honestly amazed that Finn and Rachel can do it. He sighed, only this time not from frustration, but from exhaustion.
“Wasn’t so bad, now was it?” Blaine finally spoke up, his voice carrying none of the bite from earlier in the evening. He must’ve been just as tired as Kurt was.
“Could’ve been worse, I guess.”
Blaine huffed a laugh that was without humor. “Sometimes, Kurt, you have the emotional capacity of a brick.”
At this, Kurt felt a bit indignant. “That’s hilarious coming from you.” Truly, as if Blaine has any right to be casting stones in the emotional availability department.
“I’m serious. You have so much you wanna say, I can tell. Just say it.” Blaine caught Kurt’s attention with that statement. “Look, I know that we didn’t break up on the best of terms, but come on. We’ve got to communicate better than this. Much as you may hate it, our lives are still going to be interconnected. No amount of arguing is going to change that.”
“Are you saying that you don’t hate it?”
“Seeing you from time to time? I can certainly think of worse things.”
Before Kurt could respond, Chester started to cry in the other room. “I got him,” Kurt said as he stood, ready to be away from this conversation. Blaine didn’t try to stop him, so Kurt left him to check on his nephew. Though not without thinking about what Blaine was implying. Does Blaine want to still spend time with Kurt?
Hi! Kisses: if I can ask for the same as I asked from rockitmans, 7 please (because I think it's a good one), if you're not comfortable with writing the same, 10 :)
hiiii so this turned into a part 2 of this one because some tags from some people (you and @rockitmans and @annepi-blog and @neryreadsfic, if we want to name names) so here we go:
7: ...to shut them up AND 10: ...desperately
Kurt should be more excited about this. He has a third date with a cute guy tonight. But for some reason he’s not thrilled. A week ago, even earlier this week, he was. Because a cute guy liked him and wanted to go out with him for a third date, and maybe he’d finally get to properly kiss a boy. And then his own anxieties got in the way. And then he kissed his roommate/best friend. And that changed things.
It’s not just that he properly kissed a boy. It’s that he kissed Blaine. His roommate. His best friend since they met earlier this year. And it’s that now, he can’t stop thinking about that kiss. About how it made him feel. And he’s not sure if he would feel that way with the guy he’s about to go on a date with.
It’s not like he doesn’t like this guy. Tyler is sweet and funny and he likes talking to him and they’ve had a nice time the past two times they’ve gone out, but… But he’s not sure. There’s still some butterflies with Tyler, but with Blaine… that was like fireworks. He’s not sure. He needs to be sure. So he gets ready for this date and hopes that it’ll help him figure out whatever his heart is trying to tell him.
The date starts off fine. They’re talking, they’re laughing, they’re having a nice time. But sometimes Tyler just doesn’t get him the way Blaine does. True, he doesn’t know him as well, but… But for some reason, he can’t stop thinking that he’d be enjoying himself more if he were with Blaine. He can’t do this. Not to himself, not to his date. So about halfway through the date, he tells Tyler, “I’m sorry, but I don’t think this is working. You’re a great guy, really, and I’d be glad to stay friends, but I can’t do this right now.” And Tyler lets him go.
Kurt decides to walk back to his dorm. It’s not too far, and it gives him more time to think. All of this isn’t just because he kissed Blaine. Yes, that has something to do with it, but… But maybe he’s been hiding what he actually feels from himself for months. Because there’s that unspoken rule that you shouldn’t date your roommate because it can mess everything up. And because he thought there was no chance Blaine might have feelings for him. But then he thinks back to that kiss and… And what if he was wrong? He needs to know if he’s wrong. Needs to know if there could be something.
He bursts into their dorm a little more frantically than necessary. Blaine looks up from the textbook he has open on his bed and starts to ask him “How was your date?” But before he can even finish that sentence, Kurt is grabbing his face and kissing him like he’s been drowning and Blaine is air.
“Um hi,” Blaine says once they’re breathing actual air again. “Is this a thing we do now or something? And aren’t you supposed to be on a date?”
“I couldn’t do it,” Kurt starts to explain. “I couldn’t keep dating him.”
“Did he end up being awful after all?”
“No. Not at all. He just– he wasn’t what I wanted. He wasn’t you. The whole time, I just couldn’t stop thinking about how much more fun I would be having if I were there with you, and about when we kissed and—” And this time it’s Blaine cutting him off and kissing him as if what he just said is something he’s been waiting to hear.
"Oh," Kurt breathes out, smiling. "So I guess this is a thing we do now?"
"Yeah, I guess it is." And Blaine pulls him smiling into another kiss.

and now, the shout-out zone, because there are some great fics from these same prompts by some great writers!

Hi Laura, is there any reason why you didn't post Right Where I Belong on AO3? I just read it on fanfiction.net, but couldn't find it on AO3 and I started marking fics I loved to read there. It was really cute, I would have read more about Blaine&Burt's relationship too - Blaine deserves happiness, always. ❤️ Thank you!
Hi!
Aw, thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I didn't move the short fics to AO3 (like RWIB or A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes) because they're fics no one usually cared much about, but I really liked writing about Blaine and Burt's relationship in it so I appreciate you mentioning it!
If people are interested I might move the rest of the short fics to AO3 in the future :)
Thank you @mynonah for the tag!! This is such a fun idea.
