Today’s the day for an Ayane Appreciation Post, apparently. Here’s several drawings of Ayane (my version of Myokyu) that I had yet to publish—the last is a cropped out version of an artistic nude I did, and I’m very proud of, but I CAN’T FRIGGIN’ POST HERE.

Ayane was the first Basara OC I ever made, back in 2011, and while my Nanahime wound up being exponentially more popular and getting more development, Ayane here is starting to shine on her own in some private RPs.

“While many others may have dismissed her as a spineless woman, he was intelligent enough to perceive the inner strength she carried, strong as tempered steel. Yet, like steel, she was also malleable, able to be forged into any weapon he wished. Make no mistake; Ayane is a very gentle, passive soul...but maybe, given some time, she’ll start to step out of the path laid out for her.

In chess, the Queen is the most powerful piece.

Hey y’all, have some Basara OC art I forgot to post.

1) Kou, the eldest daughter of Maeda Toshiie and Matsu. She’s four. She likes mushrooms.

2) Megohime redesign. Hate the eyes in the pic.

3) Megohime again. Something is still missing in her design....

4) Gakuen designs for Nana, Ayane and Kotoko.

5) Mori Okimoto, the late older brother of Mori Motonari. He was an eccentric but even-keeled, scholarly man who used the element of wind to turn books and papers into weapons. But the pressure to maintain perfection clearly got to him, as he seemed to drink himself to death...

6) Learned the border effect trick in CSP, tried it on Ayane.

Motonari with Ayane/Myokyu. I wanted to give off the feeling that he’s being possessive/overbearing, but at the same time some friends thought the picture was sweet even knowing Motonari’s character.

So! I’ll leave it up to you, the viewer, to interpret. Is it creepy? Or charming?

Also it took me an entire day to color because I specifically did NOT want to use the fill tool and use a watercolor brush. I’ll quickly add I did not draw the sunflowers; I went into the clip studio asset shop like GIVE ME YOUR BEST SUNFLOWERS, MONEY IS NO OBJECT, I’VE GOT DOUGH.

Redrew two *more* old Sengoku Basara OCs from years ago!

Lady Ayane, “The Caged Bird of Aki” (No one knows his wife Myokyu’s original name before she became a Buddhist, so I just picked a pretty name.)

Princess of Aki and wife of Mori Motonari, Ayane’s past before being revealed to the people of Aki is relatively unknown; she claims to be a lord’s daughter and this is backed up by Motonari, but then again, no one would be stupid enough to challenge him on it. Ayane is quiet and gentle, but very kind to those who meet her—an important part of keeping loyalty to the Mori clan, as she keeps up morale and visits training and wounded soldiers. This, too, is part of Mori’s calculations.

Their relationship isn’t an abusive one, but it’s not an openly affectionate one, and it’s pretty obvious he takes her good nature for granted at times and she’s there to produce suitable heirs—in some cases it’s almost like he treats her more like a pet than a spouse. After a few run-ins with Nanahime, however, Ayane’s starting to grow a backbone.

She spends most of her time inside the castle, and is basically just a figurehead, much to her chagrin.

Aiou Mototsuna, “The Viper”

Motonari’s younger half-brother and captain of a small militia of snipers and archers. Snarky, cynical and just in it to get through the day, Mototsuna is a talented sniper who uses a crossbow and has the lightning element. His combat style is simple: avoid being seen, kill the target, and escape; however, in a fight where ranged attacks aren’t possible, he also can use a whip. Though not nearly as talented a tactician, Mototsuna does keep close to his chest a plot to overthrow Motonari and take over the Mori clan (and those who know history know he…failed miserably.) He spends most of his time up in treetops, and his fortress reflects this, as it’s basically a giant treehouse.
