"AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES" 😏😏😏😏
Rhaenyra: I will literally kiss the next person who tells me I’ll be a good queen
Myseria: I think you’ll be a good queen
Rhaenyra, seductively applying chapstick:
Looking at white worm stuff and forever laughing at Rhaynera crying she fears Daemon deserted her and Myseria is like ehh he’s prob just pouting in a corner somewhere he’ll be back when he runs out of coin.
Haha reading it again she adds o turn against you naw that means extra work Daemon ain’t a man for extra work.
After reading your analysis of Daemon and Nettles' relationship, I remembered an important factor on Rhaenyra's inability to trust and a factor into her downfall: Mysaria. So I'm curious as to why to why Mysaria may have possibly wanted Nettles dead. She's an ambitious woman without a doubt, but in HOTD she and Daemon parted on bad terms in season 1. Do you think Mysaria plotted to have Nettles executed or was she attempting to play a bigger game in the long run? Love your posts by the way!! 💙
Aw, thank you!
Mysaria is mysterious, as her name implies (along with Misery). I think Daemon's words upon hearing Rhaenyra's letter are important: "A queen's words, a whore's work."
I've seen some say he was implying Rhaenyra was a whore; I don't think there is much room for debate what he means, though. I think it is pretty obvious this is Daemon recognizing Mysaria influencing Rhaenyra not to trust the "dragonseeds," which Fire & Blood directly states several times, and that she no longer even trusted him.
My reasoning for having a somewhat alternative view of Nettles and Daemon's relationship is also kind of based on Mysaria and Daemon's story, actually. See, what ended their relationship was the crown, and the death of a child.
Daemon gave Mysaria a dragon egg for their child; she would have had a "dragon seed" (and many/most of the dragonseeds were indeed Targaryen bastards, though I'd argue the text indicates Nettles wasn't, and some others are debatable). But after Viserys--Rhaenyra's father--orders Daemon to send Mysaria away, she miscarries while on the ship carrying her across the Narrow Sea.
"They stole my crown and murdered my daughter, and they shall answer for it."
That's Rhaenyra's response to losing Visenya. In the books, that is. I personally see a hinted parallel here with Mysaria. Mysaria might be a whore and a commoner, but why shouldn't she also mourn and want revenge for her child, a child who might well have lived and done well had the crown not ordered her sent away for her low status?
Look at every single action Mysaria takes in the Dance of the Dragons.
Mysaria hires Blood & Cheese (not that this makes Daemon not responsible; he was) to kill Jaehaerys.
Mysaria suggests having Helaena and Alicent assaulted until they bear bastards (even if that likely did not happen, it seems in line with her character to suggest it).
Mysaria has two dudes plotting to free Corlys, who's been imprisoned for trying to protect his bastard son Addam, executed.
Mysaria tells Helaena about her son Maelor being torn to pieces, and Helaena then commits suicide.
Mysaria wants Nettles executed.
What's the common thread in each of these plotlines? Ding ding ding, hurting children. What's the most notable element of her relationship with Daemon? Their child was hurt.
I think Mysaria just wanted to hurt people because she was hurting. I think she was simply cruel, bitter, had some righteous reasons to be angry but lost herself in her envy and hatred. I don't know if she had any great plan to ruin Rhaenyra, or if she was just as self-deceived.
