Congrats! What subjects did you take? Because I''m going onto Year 11, and all this bullshit info is being said. Is it true if you take Science's you get a higher ATAR?
eng adv / bio / pdhpe / general maths / society and culture
literally the best subjects you will do well in is ones you LIKE, and things only scale if you do reaaaaaaaaaaaally well in them
compared to some people who did elite subjects (ext., all the sciences etc) i loved my 'easy' subjects and gladly worked hard in all of them. if i did the subjects teachers generally want you to do i honestly would not have done as well because theyre extremely hard-to-do subjects for someone who doesnt like them
i dropped my extention subjects because they required more work than a 2 unit subject
i only did ten units so all my study time felt worthwhile
learn to write good essays NOW as english is a real decider- it has to count for everyone and youre up against the state so you'll be ahead of the pack if you can nail essays going into the hsc year
dont over-work yourself in year 11 but make sure you learn good study habits, i didnt learn proper essay techniques, exam timing or started studying after school until after term two of hsc
a band six in general maths is waaaay easier than a band six in any sciences - im srs choose only subjects you enjoy! generally a mark over 85/90 scales up so work on getting all your subjects in that range and the atar takes care of itself
teachers are your friends, always chat them up for good advice and ask lots of questions. the hsc is like a dry handjob all year the more you engage with the coursework the more involved you'll be. but i did get a couple of useless teachers but you have to suck it up and learn the syllabus yourself
sadly though fun subjects like art and music are known to scale badly ONLY if you do average in it though! so choose these if you can get close to full marks
google 'atar' calculator - this should give you a good idea what marks scale
i love that you care this early about the hsc, good luck babe x
