Ruby Day Headcanon: The Red Trailer and Volume 4 character trailer are depictions of Ruby's coping mechanism when dealing with too much emotional turmoil. She sneaks out, finds the heaviest concentration of local Grimm, and goes human blender on them until she's feeling better.

EXACTLYYYYYYYYY

For years and years I've used that trailer as a central point for my personal interpretation of Ruby's character and my god have I had to fight for it.

Ruby is someone who's used to dealing with her inner turmoil and emotional problems by herself. And not in a way where she thinks that like, Tai or Yang or Qrow wouldn't sympathize or try to help, but that they all have their own problems that they deal with much more outwardly. None of them are particularly reserved about their own coping mechanisms, and I think in the middle of it all Ruby just shrunk in on herself. All her frustration and anger would do is heap on another problem for her sister to shoulder, or another reason for Tai to shut himself away, so better to clamp those down and deal with them when you know no one else is watching.

And what you get in the end is volume 9.

What do you think May's initial reaction was to the big reveal of Salem's existence?

“Of course the ultimate evil magic person who wants to kill us all is a hot goth woman. It makes sense. It’s the only part of this that makes sense.”

Penny is such a straightforward sweetheart, I'm imagining her in that Princess/Grimm AU binding Alpha Beowulf Ruby's wound with that red cloth, and poor Ruby just being completely "???? What just happened?" in the aftermath.

late response to this ask but YO I like this idea! I haven't really thought far on why Ruby has a red cloth there other than "well I gotta tell the audience that's Ruby and not some random Beowolf" but I do like that idea too!

lol summer is once again at beacon, being a leader of a team... though this time around it's like, thousands of grimm.

Cinder, who used to wear red with black and gold - a contrast to Ruby's red with black and silver - now wears all black with dull gold lines. Replace the black with white, and you're getting awfully close to Jaune's aesthetic, wouldn't you say?

Amity Arena kind of has me fucked up because Boundless Jaune’s art has his orange accents as red and it makes the comparison even better, but in the show it’s very clearly orange (although Cinder’s flames are more orange than yellow this volume). He’s probably the character with the least reference to his actual colour name, it’s literally only his hair and symbol that are actually yellow, and now his symbol changes colours based on the dust being used. That makes sense since we still don’t know what colour he’s ACTUALLY supposed to represent, because we’ve had confirmation since Volume 1 that he has a colour his family gave him by name (yellow) and the colour he actually embodies. Jaundice played with the idea that it fit him because Jaune was “yellow-bellied” or a bit cowardly early Volume 1, but now he’s so far removed from being a coward, and has no sun, golden, or fire connotations like Sun and Yang do bar from his Joan of Arc inspiration. 

But Jaune and Cinder both get colour palettes that are significantly darker. The only big difference between their palettes is cinder’s broach she’s had since volume 1, and the fact Jaune has white armour. Their gold accents are pretty much the same colour. From after Cinder and Jaune meet, their colour schemes become incredibly similar.

Hir02 Headcanon: Their reborn selves remember their past from their very first meeting. Not everything at once, not even close - but they do feel a profound sense of lost and found, of reconnection, and their parents find them hugging each other and bawling their eyes out. Not because they're hurt or sad, as they finally explain between sobs and sniffles. Because they're so happy.

Same tho. Before they meet, they both feel that...something is missing but they don’t know what it is. But when they do meet, they just know that the other person is what they were missing. They can’t explain it and they don’t fully understand it either, but they know everything is going to be alright from then on because that empty part of themselves is filled now.
