A groan tore out of him before he could stop it as his head tipped back for a second like he was trying not to scream at the ceiling.

“That’s no-” Damon cut himself off, teeth grinding as he dragged both hands down his face, palms pressing hard into his eyes before sliding to his jaw.

“You’re not listening." He said, voice rough with frustration. “That is not what this is. That’s not what I’m saying. At all.” His voice dropped, quieter but no less intense. “You don’t owe anyone a performance. You don’t have to martyr yourself because you think that’s what’s expected. And I sure as hell am not asking you to.”

“I know.” Stefan said quietly. “I have never believed love needed permission or an explanation.”

He took a slow step closer, careful though, like he was aware of every consequence attached to the space between them.

“But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with a cost,” Stefan continued. “Some feelings don’t ask if you’re ready for them. They just take. And then you’re left trying to clean up what they break.”

Buffy wiped the sleep from her eyes as she entered the kitchen and started to make coffee. Last night, she'd heard Stefan and Elena talking in her bedroom last night. She didn't mean to. She'd heard Elena's bedroom door slam and when she was about to knock on the door when she heard what they were talking about. Long story short, Stefan and Damon were vampires, but that wasn't what Buffy was focused on. Elena officially knew that vampires existed and Buffy knew firsthand what finding that out was like. She remembered how scared and alone she'd felt. Not having anyone to talk to about it. She wasn't going to let Elena go through the same thing.

Buffy almost came clean to Elena last night, but decided against it. Her cousin had enough bombs dropped on her last night. She didn't need the fact that Buffy was a vampire slayer added to the mix. The best thing for Elena last night was to get some sleep and process what she learned. This morning was probably too soon for Buffy to tell Elena about her own life, but she couldn't keep it from her either. Not now.

However, Buffy wasn't going to tell Elena that she was a supergirl who punched vampires in the face  or that she'd fallen in love with a vampire who resembles Stefan more than his actual brother. For now, she would just stick with knowing the truth. The rest would come out in increments. What kind of increments, she wasn't sure. She'd wing it.

She was pulled out of her reverie when she heard footsteps on the stairs. "Hey," she said softly to Elena as she came into the kitchen. "What are you doing up so early?"

"please tell me you're not wearing that out today?" - from katherine

Nora’s reflection stared back at her while she stood in front of the mirror, lips pressed together in a tight line. She tugged once at the hem of her top, then tilted her head, taking in the whole picture again. The outfit leaned very 90s with loose denim jeans, cropped collared shirt, and black Converse.

“If you hate it that much.” Nora said, finally glancing over her shoulder with a pointed look. “Then go pick something out for me.”

KLAUS WATCHES HER THE WAY SOMEONE STUDIES A HAND THAT MIGHT STROKE OR STRIKE. he’s cautious, but interested in seeing which of his instincts will be tested first. is that a challenge? of course it is. that’s the whole point, isn’t it? he almost laughs at the casual audacity.

“if you need it to be.” she always brings the stir of the hunt in him. it’s like she’s poking the wolf and pretending it’s curiosity and not the thrill she pretends she doesn’t chase. he doesn’t fault her. the little doppelgänger has flipped and flopped between predictable and forgettable. the salvatores gave her stability or sparks. predictability and safety. boring and more boring. he gives her teeth and thrill, even if she’d never admit it.

there’s something almost warm in his presence with her. almost. he doesn’t trust her nor her intentions. her presence willingly in his life is the first warning something is off. he tilts his head a fraction, studying her. she’s like a puzzle that’s been solved, yet has all these extra pieces. “so? say what you mean, love. i don’t play guessing games.”

Damon’s brows lifted the second the words left her mouth, skeptical look passing over his face.

“Mmhmm." Damon hummed, head tilting. “Before I even think about saying yes, did Stefan already tell you no?” He stepped closer, gaze narrowing with that familiar mix of suspicion and playfulness.

“Or." His mouth curved into a knowing smirk. “Is this one of those brilliant Gilbert plans my brother wouldn’t approve of?” He gave a soft click of his tongue. “Because if that’s the case, you should’ve led with that.”

“No." Damon said plainly, voice low but certain. “I didn’t want you because you looked like Katherine.”

He shook his head, stepping closer as if daring her to try and argue it. “Yeah, you look like her. That’s biology, Elena. Can’t exactly change that.” His eyes softened, losing that edge he kept sharpened. “But you don’t act like her. You don’t think like her. You don’t love like her.”

His expression fell into something vulnerable. “I wanted you because I loved you from the very start. Long before I ever admitted it. Long before you ever looked twice at me. You were you. And that was the difference.” He shrugged faintly, eyes flicking down for a beat before returning to hers.

“Katherine was my past. You were the one who made me actually want a future.”

" I say we go to my parents cabin, you, me, no vampires, no witches, no other doppelgangers.. Just the two of us for a couple of days. No interruptions, and maybe mornings full of pancakes, and whipped cream?" - from Elena, to whoever you want <3

Damon’s head tilted, eyes sliding over to her with that familiar lazy interest. His mouth twitched, the beginnings of a smirk already tugging at one corner as he let the silence stretch, like he genuinely needed to weigh the pros and cons of being alone with her.

He made a little show of it with his lips pressing together like he was deep in thought. Then he glanced back at her again, eyes brighter now withh mischief sparking behind them. The smirk finally settled in full, slow and smug.

“Hmm.” Damon drawled, as if this were a very serious negotiation. “Pancakes, whipped cream and no one trying to kill us for a whole 48 hours at least?” He let out a soft, fake considering hum. “Alright, Elena. You’ve got yourself a deal.”

“On one condition.” damon added, grin widening. “You agree to join me in the hot tub. Naked. For a bit.”

He arched his brows, like it was the most reasonable request in the world. “I mean, if we’re doing the whole ‘no interruptions’ thing, we might as well do it properly.”
