I always love this scene, but I also love how much effort is put into littler details. I also recommend watching the cutscene then just looking at the photos I've taken, as the video format conveys so much more.
^ While this is on the lower pad, it might make you miss all the details on the upper pad.
^ Dark Pit is bruised up himself and looks very genuinely concerned about Pit's health, that his sprite doesn't convey.
^ He gets up as Viridi explains the situation, watching Pit once he gets one knee up. While he is listening to Viridi he is focused on Pit.
^ By the time he gets told he can't fly he begins to look downwards, most likely a mix of remorse but also his own injuries.
^But he quickly looks up again when he sees Palutena approach, before she is even on screen. Suddenly being alerted of her presence.
^ By the time she is on screen Dark Pit looks away more deliberately. His eyes are still open, looking at the ground in from of him. He doesn't watch Palutena pick up Pit. If I wasn't sure he felt guilty before I definitely see it now, but mostly by the act of letting Palutena have space with Pit. He looks like he is contemplating as Palutena pulls Pit over. I think he has already decided at this point he is going to help Pit. Which is so cool but easy to miss detail.
KI:U really knows how to use it's models and it is really shown here. There are of course many other scene with this much detail. And while small I really appreciate what it shows for the character.
Sorry to bother you a second time with an ask(none of my friends know kid Icarus so I got no one to talk to about)
But when hades pokes fun at pits inability to fly palutena states “his wings just don’t work right”
I googled “wing deformities” and the first thing that came up was angel wing, a deformity where rapid wing development causes the wing to outgrow proper bone support, causing the wing to bend out at an unnatural angle and a permanent inability to fly
And what’s it caused by?
An unhealthy diet of rich protein and carbohydrates.
And we know pit loves food. Specifically things like sweets and fast food, based on his distaste for veggies as stated in Palutenas Revolting Dinner
I rest my case
Well apologies, but I am going to challenge your case! A year late! (I am always happy to receive ask dw)
And if anyone notices mistakes below please comment! espically with formatting.
Angel Wing Syndrome
Angel Wing Syndrome is a deformity that effects aquatic birds, such as ducks and geese. Angels, like Pit, are typically inspired by the Dove and other birds that are typically non-aquatic birds. But let's say Pit is a swan or something, this still doesn't fit.
Angel Wing Syndrome also limits or completely restricts a bird from flying, which isn't the case for Pit, he can flap/glide on his own and with assistance from the Gods, can fly. If he had Angel Wing Syndrome he would mostly likely not be able to fly at all.
Not to matter that was make Angel Wing Syndrome so recognisable it the physical deformity is has on the bird. Having vitals feathers pulled to the rear. Pit clearly does not have this.
Though I will agree Pit doesn't have the best diet.
There are 10 possible food to have for health, this includes:
Fruits: apples, melons, grapes,
Meaty Foods: meat, hamburgers, sushi
Junk food: cakes, ice cream, doughnuts, bars of chocolate.
There is no vegetables! Unless you count anything in the burger haha.
But this ask did make me wonder, why can't Pit fly? And if there is any evidence in game to why.
I seem to find in an answer in by comparing when Pit can fly vs when he cannot.
Pit's Wings
In the original game he looks like this (oh gods the quality I apologise)
His wings go along his upper back, though pretty small right? Only reaching the neck when stretched out.
But now look at him with the Wings of Pegasus, they reach his head. Now while this could just be a visual to show the Pegasus' Wings Superiority, but perhaps Pit's wings aren't big enough to carry his weight.
But before I came to a conclusion, I looked at Uprising
First two (top layer) are Pit's wings normally where as the last two (bottem) layer is when the Miracle of Flight is activated. It may be hard to see but his wings are bigger when the Miracle of Flight is activated. You can see this when Pit jumps out at the start of a chapter, but can also see this in the cutscene in Ring of Chaos , when Viridi activated Flight.
You can see his wings grow. As seen in the images below and at the beginning of the clip.
5 seconds · Clipped by HeyaWhatUp · Original video "Kid Icarus: Uprising - Cutscenes" by MaskedMetaKnight4
I also looked at the pegasus wings for Uprising, but they are turned off because of potential unreliability, according to Palutenas(see image one below), hence they aren't any bigger than normal miracle of flight(image two below).
Note: when Pit is extracted from battle his wings do not change. (image three below)
So when Miracle of Flight is activated, Pit's wings grow? It that just a special detail or does Pit need bigger wings?
Dark Pit's Wings
To figure this out we can also use Dark pit for when he gets Pandora Power.
Pre-Pandora, his wings are similar to Pit's(see first image), but when he gets Pandora they almost double in size (see second image), you can really feel the difference.
But what is fascinating, is that when you fight him again, his wings are back to the average size (see third image). At first I thought this was an inconsistency, but no, as after the battle he seems to activate his wings, become big again (see fourth image).
Dark pit doesn't gain/have better wings, he gains power to activate his own infinite Miracle of Flight, which also make his wings bigger. He seems to prefer smaller wings for flighting (as they probably make them both lighter on their feet).
This makes me think that the Pits don't have big enough (or at the very least strong enough) wings to carry them. So the Miracle of Flight acts as an aid that give them these things while in flight (as Dark pit chooses to deactivated on the ground).
This is probably the answer.
(more speculation below)
But if that is the case, the biggest question is
Why does Pit's Wings Burn/Why is there a limit to the Miracle of Flight?
This part now is just speculation. (Also I am ignoring the last scene of 15min flying for this post, as I just think it's just a credit thing.)
Is seems that if the Miracle of Flight is used for too long Pit gets burnout both metaphorically and physically, his wings catch aflame due to the limit. So why is there a limit, and why does Dark Pit not have it?
The only difference between Pit and Dark Pit is how they gain their miracle of flight.
Dark Pit absorbed Pandora's power, making it his own. Therefore the power he uses to fly is (temporary) his own that he can control and regulate. Whereas Pit has someone else acting upon him, gods for that matter. Who cannot regulate their power being exerted upon him as well as Dark Pit can on himself.
I think it's the different between external vs internal regulation that is the difference between Pit and Dark Pit here. Dark Pit can know exactly how much power/usage he needs for flight whereas the gods made be just shoving a bunch of power in Pit's wings, not knowing how to regulate it correctly to Pit's needs. For the Miracle of Flight to be safe and unlimited, Pit has to be the one giving power to his wings.
But in order to get that power he has to steal it, which has been shown to be unsustainable as Pandora lived on in Dark Pit's wings. Not only that but it had to be all of Pandora's power, who was a goddess. So I don't think Palutena can simply give this power to Pit, as is has to be the power of an entire deity, but if you absorb that power, the deity lives on. While the circumstances of Pandora's revival were rare, there no certain way to know that there isn't other ways an absorbed deity can get their power back.
This makes in unlikely that Pit could one day fly on his own indefinitely. Though can offer explanation on why Dark Pit can fly. But alas, this part is more speculative than the other (hence under the cut). But it is interesting to think about.
Analysis that happened because I looked at Japanese translations.
This is very long. Not ideal for mobile.
Back when I was in this fandom years ago, a common question people are confused by is why Dark Pit is working for Viridi???? Like, he does need someone to make him fly but what happened to "I am Dark Pit, servant to no other than myself"?
At first, I wasn't bugged by it that much, it was something to add to what he was doing post-Uprising. But then I looked at the Japanese translation recently, and I went down a huge rabbit hole. Suddenly, how I viewed Kid Icarus changed. And I get back to how it relates to Viridi at the end.
There is a very common theme, mechanic and story element. That is Pit's ability (or lack thereof) to fly. But to understand its narrative importance I will start with Dark Pit's narrative. (Pit's will be in the next post.) And it's difference in Japanese. Which we'll tie into this flying theme.
From the get-go of Dark Pit's creation, to later events to show the difference between them.
(Dark Pit/Pittoo is English)
(ブラックピット/Burakku Pitto/Burapi is Japanese)
Dark Pit/Burakku Pitto's Creation
Dark Pit is anti-authority. "You're A boss, Pandora. But you're not MY boss." See how he makes a point, calling her by name, that she is indeed a boss, but goes against her anyways. He doesn't like the idea of being told what to do. He has his hand out clenched, making a point, a stance even. He is defying her.
Burakku Pitto is dismissive and independent. When Pandôra demands to know why he isn't fighting Pitto, he replies "That doesn't have anything to do with me. I'll do whatever I want." It's less about going against her because she's a boss telling him what to do but more like he just got here, and he's going to do what he wants. His sprite is running, attacking, more focused on beating her than what she is saying.
It's anti-authority vs independent(?)
Get the idea? This is important for later. Now three more cases of the difference between them, that are vital to understanding Burakku Pitto.
Allies with Medusa?
Start of Chapter 6, Pit accuses Pittoo of working with the Underworld army. He responds with "Don't be ridiculous.". He calls the claim/idea ridiculous, and his pose suggests he is almost offended. He'll then go on to say he doesn't like someone copying his act.
Same time Pitto accuses Burapi of being with the Underworld army. "I have nothing to do with the Underworld army!" He exclaims, yet is more informative. Having his fist out for this claim. He goes on to say he doesn't like the idea of there being another him. (Using the pose that Dark Pit has.)
Dark Pit ridicules the idea while Burakku Pitto gives a straight answer. Once against showing Pittoo's Anti-Authority Stance and Burapi independence. But is that all.
Very Interesting change in dialogue is after Pit/Pitto says he's the copy here. Their response is very interesting.
Dark Pit makes a quip. A Snarky response to make fun of Pit. "Come on now. Think about it." "If I was a copy, why would I kicky my own butt?" He's making fun of Pit, even crossing his arms with a smug look at the end.
But Burakku Pitto fires back. Arguing he's not. "Why do you say that I'm the Copy!? Right now. I'm alive!" He exclaims and then gets angry, "How about it! I'm living!". His pose is offended/angry by the end of it. The idea of him being a copy upsets him and argues that by him existing he isn't, cause his choices are his, and his actions are his, and how dare he accuses him of being a copy! He makes his own choices! And that is what upsets Burakku Pitto, not the idea of authority, but him not being free/his choices not being his.
(Through this phrase definitely is not a one-to-one for English, and may have other meanings).
While he is aware that he is made from Pitto's "Dark thoughts", (as Palutena says in Japanese ver,) he doesn't like the term copy as it suggests his choices are not his own.
Freedom through anti-authority and Freedom through choices (or is it?).
Medusa/Medyūsa offers Assistance.
This is another case where Burakku Pitto isn't necessarily anti-authority.
Eventually, Medusa shows up. In English she calls Pittoo "a real go-getter" and Dark Pit replies "Is that so?"
Medyūsa comments that he's fighting back immediately. Burakku Pitto asks "You mean me?".
Both will offer the doppelgängers assistance in which they both reply with "Don't make me laugh" (though Burapi has a "Heh," before it).
Their response afterwards is very different though.
Dark Pit says "You got me confused with the other guy. THIS Pit is no pawn." Calling Pit a pawn and stating he himself isn't. He's against the idea of being used. He goes on to say he'll fight Medusa.
Burakku Pitto response is VERY biblical. "Those who brandish a the sword of another do not have wings to alight." Which is a phrase that basically means "If I were to fight for another God/religion I will not be allowed into heaven for that betrayal." Usually the person saying this phrase already believes/fight for a God and is refusing to fight for another, believing they will be denied heaven. Of course in this context, Burakku Pitto doesn't have a God, but he does have something he probably respects/worships like one. (Which I'll reveal later). He then states he'll fight Medusa.
Anti-Authority vs Other authority(?)
When talking to Pit about Palutena (and response after his speech)
Their Views on Palutena and Pit/Pitto's Relationship are also interesting.
Dark Pit says "Bring it, puppet!" with an angry/ready-to-fight pose, when referring to Pit. In which Pit himself gets angry. He then goes on to say "Palutena says jump, you jump. She says fight, you fight." That Pit is obeying everything Palutena says. "It sounds like a very satisfying existence. For her, that is." He mocks Pit's choice to serve Palutena and listens to her without a fault, saying his existence is unsatisfying with a smug look. This is almost also a jab at Palutena, for having Pit be so loyal to her. Calling Pit a puppet is saying he doesn't have free choices.
Burakku Pitto instead says "Bring it on! You piece of goddess shit!" (yes he does swear). Not even naming Palutena and is in his running/attacking pose. Then goes on to say "You're always doing whatever the goddess tells you and fighting for her without any questions." Still not naming Palutena and not bringing her directly into the conversation but Pitto's status towards her. Saying Pitto follows her direction without question. But instead of mocking Pitto he then asks, "Don't you have any regrets about that life? Hm?" With his fish clenched. he's asking if Pitto regrets living a life of blind faith, living a life without Freedom. Freedom is established as something Burakku Pitto cares about greatly. And upon seeing Pitto not being free he wants to know if Pitto has any regrets about that.
Dark pit and Pit's conversation is about Pit's loyalty to Palutena.
Burakku Pitto and Pitto's is about Pit's regrets.
And while calling Pit a puppet implies Pit is not free, it's a lot more obvious that was the intention in Japanese.
Both Pit/Pitto say they're happy working for Palutena.
Then the conversation continues.
Dark Pit states confidently (with arms crossed) "The Mirror of Truth doesn't lie. I'm a reflection of your true self." Bringing up that his opinion had to be based on something Pit believes in. He goes on to say "So maybe your faith in her isn't quite so absolute after all." He says, making his point. Saying Pit doesn't have absolute faith in Palutena because he doesn't have faith in her.
Burakku Pitto says (while in his thinking/pondering pose) "It's said that the "magic mirror of truth" shows the real truth." As if reflecting on what he has heard about his existence. He then uses what he knows to come to a conclusion against Pitto by saying "If that's so. my existence itself betrays your true feelings." but his true feelings about what exactly? Palutena, or Pitto's regrets?
Finally, after Pit/Pitto fires back one more time they say their final piece.
Dark Pit doesn't look impressed, "Looks like I touched a nerve. Methinks the puppet doth protest too much." He touched a nerve and mocks Pit for being a puppet once more telling him he shouldn't protest/talk so much. He then relents. "Ok, fine. Do what you want. Or rather, keep doing what she wants." Emphasis on the 'she' since it's her choices Pit is following, not his own. His side of the conversation ends with him smugly looking as he says "But I, for one, refuse to be a puppet. These wings take ME wherever I want to go!" He refuses to be like Pit and blindly follows orders. But what is interesting is that he mentions how his wings take him wherever he wants, as Pit's wings take Pit wherever Palutena wants.
Burakku Pitto looks smug. "They say people get irritated when you hit the mark." Using Pitto's defensiveness against him. He then relents by saying. "Fine. Do what you want." Recognising that Pitto's choice to serve Palutena is his choice. But it doesn't make him free. He ends by stating his perspective, "I absolutely refuse to be someone else's servant. With these wings. I will live freely!" He chooses not to serve anyone, saying that with these wings he can live freely.
What's interesting is that he ties his ability to be free to his wings. Remember that.
What both versions of him have in common is this idea of Freedom, and Pit not being free. Dark Pit sees his Freedom by not serving others and making his own choice, and Burakku Pitto sees Freedom, similarly, with the same values, but there is one main difference:
Freedom through ability to serve yourself vs Freedom through having the ability to serve yourself.
And I'll explain that difference in the final section of this Part.
Dark Pit/Burakku Pitto's Battle Cry
Jumping ahead many chapters we get to the battle cry during Chapter 21: Chaos Vortex. And we'll look at a single line from the cry, how the doppelgängers introduce themselves.
When Dark Pit introduces himself he says the following "And I am Dark Pit, servant to no other but myself!" Whereas Pit serves Palutena he serves himself and his own desires. This line is one of his most establishing character lines (imo). He is independent and makes his own choices, never to serve anyone else.
But in Burakku Pitto's introduction he says "With wings of freedom, I am Black Pit!"
(Note: He is called 'Black Pit' when translated directly from Japanese (Burakku = Black, Pitto = Pit).)
It's a minor change in words but the implications are HUGE. One. He calls his wings "wings of freedom" since he can fly with them, but by extention, he's also calling that flight "freedom". And next, he says "With". When he has these 'Wings of Freedom' he is Burakku Pitto. He is free. But it also implies that he is independent because he has that wings. The main point is that 'with these wings/ability to fly I am free'. The ability to fly is the cause, the effect is that he is free.
Wings to fly with -> Freedom
Remember when I mentioned Burakku Pitto has something he respects/worships? That thing is 'flight' or more accurately 'being able to fly on his own'. He already has previously mentioned that because of his wings, he can live freely, but here, where he's meant to say who/what he serves, he doesn't say himself, he says his wings/flight.
But what does that mean?
Well if his freedom is tied to whether or not he can fly on his own. Then what does that mean when he can't? When he loses his ability to fly? Well, it means in his eyes:
He is no longer free.
That may sound like a stretch but consider it. If you were to play the game and instead of viewing the miracle of flight as being freedom instead of just being able to fly. This flying theme I mentioned at the beginning. What does that change? Well if Dark Pit doesn't see himself as free then he would be more open to working with someone, he is still defiant in nature but he would probably have to put up with it if he believed he lost his freedom. Doesn't help that the only way to get a bit of it back is by serving someone.
But what else does that change narratively?
Well, there is one other character that constantly talks about his wish to fly on his own. A character whose big thing is that they cannot fly but have a desire to do so. A character that Dark Pit got his deep desire/love of flight from but at the same time doesn't see him as free. A character that almost died because he tried to fly longer than he should of and suffered the consequences. Whereas if you viewed this wish for flight as also a wish for freedom it makes things a lot more interesting.
The idle description for the mirror of truth reads;
“Said to reveal the truth, this mirror is also thought to be used by Pandora to transform souls into Underworld monsters. Pit destroys it with a kick, accidentally bringing about the creation of Dark Pit in the process.”
And I think this can explain a lot about the mirror of truth and dark pit
What I found interesting was the wording regarding the monsters. “Transform souls into underworld monsters.” With the in game dialogue the player is led to assume that the mirror clones already existing monsters, but the idol description seems to suggest that rather souls are converted from their original form into monsters, rather then a duplicate of an already existing monster being made. If it only duplicates what it sees, wouldn’t it instead simply duplicate the soul how it already is instead of distorting it into a monster? So based on this detail, then the possibility that it clones can be ruled out, leaving us with only the latter option.
So as to how this works I think I have an answer.
The mirror is specifically said to reflect the truth. So it’s assumed it simply clones.
However, the character we all choose to present to others is simply a facade, is it not? We only want others to see our best traits, so most people hide their worst traits and only show the side of themselves people will like. So in a way what we choose to show others is largely a lie.
So the truth to one’s character lies in our worst traits, the truth that we choose to keep hidden. I believe this is the “truth” that the mirror really reflects.
So as to how this changes a souls form we have to do a little more theorizing about, but I believe that the reflection the mirror shows reflects a persons worst traits in not just character but also in physical form in the case of souls. Hades states that souls can be easily molded into different forms, somewhat as if they were clay, so if they can be so easily changed into different bodies it makes sense that the mirror would distort them into monsters, the magic energy reflecting negative traits distorting the souls form.
So as to how this pertains to dark pit, it explains a bit about the nature of his character and also puts my mind at ease that pit is still a pure innocent good boy.
Dark pit is reflecting the “truth” of pits character by exposing the worst parts of his character. As I’ve stated above, the fact that pit portrays his loyalty as being absolute when he still in fact has doubts makes this identity a lie, thus the truth that the mirror reflects is purely his doubts and none of his loyalty. It’s already been well established in the past that dark pit represents the feelings pit chooses to keep to himself, but I think it clears up the debate the two have during dark pits boss fight about whether or not pit is truly loyal to palutena. He is loyal to her, he does have faith in her, but like any normal person he occasionally has doubts, and of course he stills has the desire to be free. But dark pits existence doesn’t suggest that he actually isn’t loyal to palutena or that he secretly hates his job and wants to abandon her. Rather, dark pit is purely a manifestation of these doubts, with none of pits loyalty and faith, and thus highly exaggerates these negative traits.
And as a small endnote, this explanation for the mirror also gives some reasoning to dark pits design other then “he’s another rendition of the emo hero clone stereotype.” The negative energy of the mirror still distorts his form, but since it’s copying an actual intact person and not a highly malleable form like a soul, then the resemblance to pit still remains.
WOAH I replied to this late. (I had this in drafts for a while haha.) But I should be able to answer more effectively now. This gets a little bit philosophical.
BTW this is a long post. o7
With the in game dialogue the player is led to assume that the mirror clones already existing monsters, but the idol description seems to suggest that rather souls are converted from their original form into monsters, rather then a duplicate of an already existing monster being made.
Perhaps? I'm not sure how much I trust the idol description without also seeing the Japanese Version. Also the fact this is mentioned after a "is also thought to", which obscures the legitimacy of the statement, but let's pretend that just the description being dramatic.
This narrative does suit the ENG Version, with Palutena saying "Dark Pit is fundamentally wicked and destructive". Cause he would be a 'monster' in that sense.
It could also sort of work where JP Burakku Pitto has "fallen into evil thoughts" and now has a "destructive impulse".
But that depends what we interpret 'monster' as. As physically, they are basically a clone, but having a 'monstrous' attitude?
If it only duplicates what it sees, wouldn’t it instead simply duplicate the soul how it already is instead of distorting it into a monster?
It wouldn't, as the point of the mirror is truth is instead revealing the "truth" (whatever the hell that means) into a being. Not just what it means. But perhaps the mirror sees "truth" and "monster" as the same?
However, the character we all choose to present to others is simply a facade, is it not? We only want others to see our best traits, so most people hide their worst traits and only show the side of themselves people will like. So in a way what we choose to show others is largely a lie.
Ehhhhhh, that's not a sentiment I would agree with. The character we show other isn't simply a facade.
Our best traits are still us and truth. While most do hide their worst traits, which is a trait in of itself, that doesn't make out best traits a lie. A person that shows good traits and hides bad traits is a different person to a version of them that shows both good and bad without hiding them. but as people will only remember you by what you show them, and you are only what you show others, which muddles what a 'true' you would even be.
So the truth to one’s character lies in our worst traits, the truth that we choose to keep hidden. I believe this is the “truth” that the mirror really reflects.
I disagree greatly. The Truth to our character is only what we present. It doesn't matter if someone loves eating chocolate if they never eat it. The truth of their character is that they don't eat chocolate, not the fact that they secretly love eating it.
But I could easily see that's how the mirror sees it. As the ideology that we are our worst traits is a very religious thing.
I don't believe in this, or we would see this with the common enemy. But we don't see this with other monsters. Dark pit is probably the exception as monsters are already in the underworld army so don't need a change in appearance but Pit is align with Palutena, so Dark Pit probably had a change in looks to differentiate him.
So as to how this pertains to dark pit, it explains a bit about the nature of his character and also puts my mind at ease that pit is still a pure innocent good boy.
Pit isn't a "pure" or "innocent" and he tries to be good. I mean he kills things as a living and his actions will always cause harm to others via his role. He aims to be good but he isn't "pure" or "innocent". But I get it if that's your opinion.
That's a fair conclusion. If the mirror of truth views one's worst thoughts/traits as being the "truth" of their character, and Dark Pit is the manifestation is this for Pit, than it's fair to assume that Pit is still loyal to Palutena. In JP, it's made more obvious that Pitto is loyal to Palutena via Burakku Pitto, as he still respects her (calling her 'sama') and wants to save her when she is in danger of the chaos kin and he's panicking.
But it feels wrong to say Dark Pit is only a manifestation of Pit's doubts. As he clearly views himself as independent from Pit.
This is also assuming the the Mirror of Truth has any legitimacy at all.
Like stated previously, none of the other monsters that go through the mirror have this change. Fun explanation but probably not one that holds.
--------------------------------
Fascinating Thought, and one that had me thinking for a while. While I enjoy aspects of it, it makes me wonder the legitimacy of the mirror, and also how it's in JP. It's definitely an interesting way to view Dark Pit's character and how it relates to Pit, but I find it a bit limiting for Dark Pit as a person.
If you believe I've made a bad point or should be corrected on something go ahead.
I hope I didn't come off a too rude or anything. Thank you greatly for the ask!
I love how much story/personality is added in Smash Bros for Kid Icarus Characters.
Like Kid Icarus is one a of the few franchises where Smash bros is Canon to it's story and it really shows. With chants of "Pittoo" when Dark Pit is winning, them talking about smash in Uprising, etc etc. But there are so many smaller details that are so cool too.
The main one I want to talk about is at the bottom so you can skip there
One of my favourite smaller details is the Screencaps and Congratulations Screens
The two screen caps have Magnus.
Magnus (with Palutena) shows up in two Screencaps, one with Pit and another with Dark Pit. And you can tell which one of them spend time with him.
In Pit's, Magnus just looks determine on fighting who he's meant to be fighting (default face) but Pit look so unnecessary aggressive it makes it funny. But I also enjoy how Palutena is looking from a far, like watching over, which gives off the vibes of her role in Uprising, watching over Pit and his shenanigans but rarely being directly involved.
In Dark Pit's, he's barely addressing Magnus (only time they interacted I believe) which makes sense but what's so funny is Palutena is wearing black. Did she want to match Dark Pit???? Both of them?? The idea that she wanted to change colour quickly. Great. She also is more action based here. Ready for battle!!
Another Screencaps with Phosphora. It's just fun to see them together after KI:U. The effort to make them strike similar poses. Hanging out to beat people or each other. Did Viridi approve this? Haha. I also just really like this Image, in front of the world, Light and Lightning.
Having Magnus and Phosphorus are in smash can make things interesting, assuming it's voluntary.
There are screencaps for Events too that are also cool.
'Doppelgänger Duel' Event.
(what a suprise there)
Showing Dark pit posing which oddly makes him less ready for battle then Pit who's ready to go. Hah.
Also reminds me of Together Mode from KI:U
'An Offering of Coins' Event
This Screencap is interesting cause obviously the connotation here is "offerings to a deity" but having both Pit and Dark Pit is what makes it interesting to look into. In Smash Dark Pit is shown more toned down, and more willing to hijinks as oppose to being baffled by them in KI:U. A lot of his screencaps are more silly. Though still a good amount of the two of them fighting though.
And the two All-Stars Wii-U Congratulations Screencaps.
In both Palutena and Pittoo's Screencap Pit. Though two very different situations.
I don't need to go into this one too much haha. While it's funny that Palutena's Congratulations screencap is such a silly one (bunny ears, flowers, Pit's blushing etc), but not all that surprising.
Though it much be interesting to be in person with Palutena in Smash, as in all Kid Icarus Games they are almost never together in person.
One of the main scenes in game that they were together for was when Pit was literally unconscious/dead.
Smash must be a really unique experience in that case for Pit. And Palutena too.
Though the main screencap I wanted to talk about was this.
Dark Pit's Screen has very different vibes, and why I looked into screencaps in the first place.
You kind of expect his screen to be him fighting Pit or him doing a cool pose but no. It's just sitting there, with Pit by his side.
At first glance this may look boring but it's actually really fascinating.
Pit has his weapon down and looks like he's almost falling asleep, besides Dark Pit of all people. Now they are allies (friends) at the end of Uprising, but they still come off as bitter rivals, with other images of them fighting, Palutena's Guidance, even Dark Pit's introduction is slightly sinister and yet, his screen cap is just the two of them sitting there.
But probably the most important detail is that they aren't just sitting there. They're on a plane, they're flying together. Sure, it's not in the normal sense of how they would do it with their wings but it still is flying. Almost like the ending of Uprising. But without Palutena or Viridi (or Pandora for Dark Pit). Just them two, enjoying flying together.
And flying is a very personal thing for both of them, (which I plan to talk about soon,) so them sharing a moment such as this is sweet. So for all things to be for Dark Pit final victory screen for All Stars. It's just him and Pit, enjoying flight.
It also gives the idea that Dark Pit has become more open since Uprising.
